The Trojans traveled to Portage on Tuesday afternoon and left on top after five complete innings. The game was postponed until Wednesday where it would be played right where it left off with the Trojans as visitors batting in the top of the sixth with a lead of 8-3. According to DAC rules had the game been called due to rain the five complete innings would have been an official game with Chesterton winning but, since it was too dark to play, the game had to be played to a full seven innings. Chesterton got on the board quickly in the first when Rob Czarniecki(2-4, 2R, 2RBI, BB, HR(7)) took a 1-2 offering over the center field fence. The senior center fielder has now homered in his first plate appearance in three consecutive games with Crown Point, Illiana Christian, and Portage being the victims. After Troy Barrett(1-3, 2R, BB, 2B) popped out in foul territory Eli McClelland(0-2, 2R, BB) drew a base on balls after a nine-pitch battle. McClelland went to second on a wild pitch and motored around to score when Caden Hackett(1-3, 2RBI) lined a single to left. Chesterton would tack on one more via a dropped third strike that the Indians catcher attempted to throw to second instead of first and the toss found the outfield. Logan Chestovich, courtesy running for Hackett, continued running and with the center fielder not showing any urgency to get the ball in Chestovich scampered home and Dylan Bradford(0-2, RBI, K) went to third on the throw to the plate. Bradford(2.1IP, 6H, 3R, 2ER, 3BB, 6K) was on the hill for the Trojans and he struck out the side in the first but did allow two knocks. Isaiah Prater(2-3, R, BB, 2B) got things going in the second doubling to left center. With first base open and the hot hitting Czarniecki due up, the Portage coach held up four fingers to put the senior slugger on intentionally. Barrett drew a walk to load the bases and McClelland laced a pitch to the hot corner finding leather of the talented Bogue at third. With bases juiced, Hackett then grounded to Bogue who threw the ball passed Banogan at first allowing all three runners to score giving Chesterton all the momentum. Portage would scratch a couple tallies after Bradford had some command issues after getting the first two hitters to grab some bench with K's in the second. A hit by pitch, walk, single, walk and another knock put the crooked number up for the Indians. Portage got another run back after singles from Bogue and Hacker and a Glassman error put ducks on the pond. With nowhere to put him Ruiz walked to score Bogue making it 6-3 and therefore ending the day for Bradford. Cam Campbell(W, .2IP, 0R, H, BB, 4K) got the call from the 'pen and retired the next two hitters on a fly out and a backward K. Barrett stretched a single into a double to start the fourth and went to third on a ground out by McClelland. Hackett then flied to right to plate Barrett who tagged from third bringing the lead back to four runs. Ethan Glassman(1-4, R, 2K) got a knock to left and Prater singled sharply through the middle to role the top in Czarniecki. With first base occupied Czarniecki took advantage of being allowed to hit and delivered a run scoring single to plate Glassman. Campbell made quick work of the Indians as the skies grew too dark to play baseball after the fifth. With the game now at Chesterton the Trojans got things cooking right away in the sixth. McClelland wore one, G Kirkland(1-4, R, K) went with the pitch for an oppo knock and Campbell was hit by the pitch to once again pack the sacks. Glassman popped out in foul ground for the second out but Nate Redman(2-4, 2RBI, K) picked him up with a single to right that drove in McClelland and Kirkland to round out the scoring at 10-3 good guys. The win was the first varsity victory for the young southpaw, Campbell. The win brings the Trojans record to 18-5 and 11-1 in the conference. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 R H E CHS 3 3 0 1 1 2 0 10 10 2 PHS 0 2 1 0 0 0 0 3 7 2
