Troy Barrett

Troy Barrett does it every time he takes the mound. He just dominates time and time again. This time it was with Portage in the other dugout and this time it was 15 K's, 1 BB, 2H, and 0 R over 6 innings of work. The southpaw expects nothing less of himself and you can see it when he throws a ball or allows a hit. I would take Barrett at 5'10" (generous maybe) over a 6' 5" pitcher any time and I'm glad he is getting the D1 opportunity at Purdue as he adds to his perfect 9-0 win-loss record. The Trojans would get all the run support Barrett would need within the first two innings and made sure it was enough when they plated four extra in the third. Rob Czarniecki(1-4, R) didn't begin this game with a dinger but he did hit a loud single back through the box. Barrett(0-3, BB) check swung grounding out to first moving Czarniecki to third after he stole second on a prior pitch. Eli McClelland(1-3, R, RBI, 3B) stepped up and drove the baseball to the gap in right center. With the ball rolling to the wall he stretched a double into a triple with his speed. We all know speed kills and McClelland gave it all he had as he put on the after burners around second making him nearly fall face first as he rumbled, bumbled and stumbled into third with the crowd cheering and rising to their feet. Czarniecki could have done cartwheels all the way to the plate for all I know, my focus was on the cat like foot speed being displayed by McClelland. Oh yeah, one nothin' Trojans. Caden Hackett(1-3, RBI) then grounded to deep short for the ribbie driving in McClelland. Gary Kirkland(2-2, R, BB, 2B) would be left stranded after his 2 out double to right center. Senior, Ethan Glassman(2-4, 2R, RBI, K) hit a frozen rope single to left to get things started in the Trojans second. Nate Redman(1-2, 2RBI) wore one and Isaiah Prater(1-2, RBI, BB) got a knock to plate Glassman but the two would be left on base at the end of the inning. With the score at 3-0 Chesterton broke the game open with four in the third, plenty of insurance for Barrett. Singles by Hackett and Kirkland started the Trojan rally. Portage had a defensive blunder off the bat of Dylan Bradford(0-3, R, RBI, K) when their shortstop ranged to his right to field Bradford's grounder and his underhand toss to the third baseman got away allowing Logan Chestovich to score and Kirkland to get to third. Glassman recorded an infield single and advanced to second on the throw that skipped passed the first baseman, Hacker, Kirkland scored. Redman followed with an infield pop fly that landed between the pitcher and second baseman and another throw went errantly by the first baseman allowing Bradford and Glassman to score. making it seven-nil on the Trojan's senior night. John Knight would come on in relief of Barrett in the seventh and pitched well with an uncharacteristically subpar display of defense behind him. Knight worked one full inning surrendering two hits and two runs, both unearned, while walking two and fanning one. The Trojans welcome the Trojans, from Highland, on Friday with a game time of 5:00.
