Chesterton hosted the battle of the Trojans on Friday evening and dominated the contest winning 16-1 over the Highland Trojans. The first inning saw a combined twenty batters with Chesterton sending fourteen and Highland six. Our Trojans had nine runners come all the way around while their Trojans had only one runner reach third base. The opening frame seemingly lasted about a full hour and ended with Chesterton leading 9-0. Rob Czarniecki(1-2, 3R, 3RBI, BB, 2B) got things started by reaching on an error and Troy Barrett(1-1, 3R, RBI, BB, 3B) wore a pitch in the back and Eli McClelland(3-3, R, 2RBI, 2B(2)) popped one up that found infield dirt and the bases were juiced. Caden Hackett(1-1, 2RBI, BB) laced a single to center plating Czarniecki and Gary Kirkland(0-3, R, RBI, K) hit into a FC which scored Barrett. John Knight(1-2, R, K), the starting pitcher, wore it better as they say in Hollywood as he wore one in the back and again there were Trojans on every base. Ethan Glassman(0-1, R, RBI, 2BB, K) hit a fly ball to center scoring McClelland who tagged from third. Sully Fleming(1-2, 2R, 2RBI, BB, 2B) drew a walk to load 'em up and Isaiah Prater(2-3, 2R, 2RBI) roped a knock that drove in two. The top of the order came back to the plate for the Trojans and Czarniecki came within a couple feet of hitting his eighth jack of the season when his deep drive hit high off the center field wall having him settle for a two-run two-bagger. Barrett showed off his batting skills and one up'd "Bobby" by hitting a triple to center plating the kid going to Kentucky. Fresh off the schneid, McClelland crushed a double down the line to score Barrett for the ninth run of the inning. Fleming roped a two-run double in the second and Czarniecki notched a ribbie with a sac fly. McClelland solidified his offensive player of the game bid with a second double and second RBI. Hackett, the defensive player of the game, would tack on a run via the sac fly which scored Barrett and just like that it's 14-0. Highland would manufacture a run in the 4th off Cam Campbell(2IP, H, R, 0ER, K) who relieved Knight(3.0IP, 2H, 4BB, 6K), on a leadoff double and two ground balls later the blue and gold Trojan made it to home plate for Highland's lone tally. Campbell also recorded a RBI knock for Chesterton's last run scored. Knight()recorded his sixth W on the hill for the season to go with a 0 in the L column. The win was the 20th for Chesterton as the Vikings from Valpo come to town on Tuesday with the conference title on the line. The Trojans will need to win one of the two games against Valpo to win the conference title. Game time is 4:30.
