Graduating 4 seniors in the previous year, Cascade looks to use their experienced youth and senior heavy class to kickoff the season. The Cascade Cadets open up the season against #2 2A Triton Central Tigers, who are coming into this year off a semi-state loss to Evansville Mater Dei 35-28. The Tigers and Cadets have only played four times in their history with Triton Central having a 4-0 record vs the Cadets. Cascade looks to avenge four straight opening game losses to the Tigers. The games have gone 7-20, 6-47, 7-45, and 14-42. The late Senior Ryan “Dolla” Bell will be honored at the beginning of the game after tragically passing away 3 weeks before the opening game kickoff. CADET NOTES Cascade is coming off their first winning season since 2013 and look to improve with 32 returning players from the 2022 roster. Cascade a heavy dose of starters on both sides of the football and numerous more Cadets with varsity playing experience. Cascade returns two-500 yard running backs, 900 yard passer and 3 returning offensive linemen. On defense, the Cadets return 2 of their top four tacklers from the 2022 season. Look out for more names to shine under the lights on Friday Night Lights for the 2023 season. Cadets surpassed the 4,000 yard mark last year on offense and will look to get off to a hot start this season. SO Brady Trebley gets the nod under center for the Cadets. Trebley completed 59% of his passes for 914 yards and 10 touchdowns. He looks to settle in and lead the no-huddle wing-t attack for the second straight year. FR Rhyder Williams will serve as the back-up quarterback for the Cadets. Rhyder fit right into the system at the Jamboree completing 2 passes for 100 yards and 2 touchdowns. SR Damien Appleby and SO Toby Savini lead the running back position. Both backs rushed for 500+ yards and 3 touchdowns for the 2022 season. Both backs look to take over more responsibility after the graduation of 1,900 yard running back Liam Farmer. SR Caiden Clements, SO Dayton Mink, SO Marcus Hobson, JR Tyler Hege, and FR Lucas Farmer all have the potential to see action in the backfield. JR Daemen Mason and SO JT Roshong look to lead the wide receiver groups this year. Roshong saw minimal action for the 2022 season catching a single 16 yard touchdown pass. Both players will bring a different look to the Cadets offense. Potential back-ups for the pass catching position are SR Chase Durbin and SR Gavin Weakley. SR Wyatt Nohren and SR Brayden Cartmel will look to be both physical blockers and pass catchers at the tight end position. Nohren makes the transition after playing Left Tackle last year for the offensive unit. Cartmel saw limited time as a blocker in the wing-t offense at tight end during the 2022 season. Potential substitutes for the tight end position at JR Brady Thornburg and FR Trent Austin. JR Duncan White, JR Josiah Murrain, and JR Owen Hargis bring back a wealth of experience up front. SR Fox Edwards, SR Jacob Potts and JR Bryce Hofing will look to fill two empty spots up front. The offensive line led the way to 4,300 yards and 49 touchdowns for the Cadets. Cascade will look to replace a 3 year starter in Walker Van Ness. Potential back-ups up front are SO Sam Starika, FR Dillon Setty, FR Wyatt Minardo and SO Brody Duncan. SR Fox Edwards, JR Duncan White, JR Josiah Murrain, and FR Dillon Setty will look to slow down a 4 year starting running back Ray Crawford. Look for JR Owen Hargis, JR Bryce Hofing, FR Wyatt Minardo, SO Brandon White to back-up the front 4 for the Cadets. SR Wyatt Nohren, SR Brayden Cartmel, SR Damien Appleby, SR Caiden Clements will look to anchor the 2nd level defense. This group brings back tons of experience on the defensive side of the football with Nohren and Cartmel returning from the 2022 season as some of the top tacklers. SR Jacob Potts, Sr Jackson Cornelius, FR Lucas Farmer, SO Dayton Mink could all see potential minutes on Friday Night as key 2nd level back-ups. SO JT Roshong, SO Marcus Hobson, SO Toby Savini will look to slow down one of the states best passers at all levels. An experienced group returns from last year with Roshong starting all 11 games and Hobson with 8 starts from the 2022 season. Roshong and Hobson each had a pair of interceptions from the last year and will look to come in with a lot of confidence in 2023. SR Gavin Weakley, JR Tyler Hege, JR Daemen Mason, SR Chad Newgent and FR Caleb Powers could potentially see minutes as key secondary back-ups for the Cadets. Troy Edwards enters his 1st year as the Defensive Coordinator for the Cadets. He brings a wealth of knowledge from his past experiences at Monrovia HS, Beech Grove HS, and Avon HS. Look for the Cadets to fly around on the defensive side of the football. Joining him on the defensive staff is 1st year defensive backs coach Alan Trump, 1st year inside linebackers coach Don Rushton, and Defensive line coaches Tony and Chris Appleby. 2023 CAPTAINS SO #12 Brady Trebley SR #30 Damien Appleby SR #52 Fox Edwards JR #53 Duncan White TIGER NOTES Triton Central is led by Indiana Football Hall of Fame Head Coach Tim Able who enters his 9th season at the helm with a record of 90-35. Coach Able is 4-0 all time vs the Cadets. The Tigers bring back SR QB Jace Stuckey and SR RB/DB Ray Crawford who have been an intricate part in 3 of the 4 wins vs Cascade. The Cadets will have to slow down the Eastern Michigan commit who has passed for 409 yards and 8 touchdowns over the last two games vs the Cadets.
