Cadets took the field Friday Night in front of a huge home crowd to take on 4A Edgewood Mustangs for Cascade Youth Night. Cascade would win the toss and elect to defer to the 2nd half. The Indianapolis Colts gifted the Cascade Athletics Department a $1,000 check prior to the game as the Indianapolis Colts Friday Night Tailgate was in town. Cascade dominated in all three phases of the game Friday night vs the Mustangs. It started with the Cascade defense giving up 49 total yards of offense and finished with the offense having 470 yards total. The Cadets defense swarmed to the football throughout the night forcing ten 3 and outs of the Mustang offense. After giving up a 36 yard pass on the opening play of the game, Mustangs would only gain 13 more yards throughout the night after the Cadet defense tightened up. FR Lucas Farmer would come up with an opening drive sack to force the Mustangs to punt. The wing-t offense would go on a strong opening drive with SO Toby Savini having a bulk of the yardage with runs of 26 and 29. SO Dayton Mink would finish it off in the end zone giving the Cadets a 7-0 lead for his 1st of the night. Cascade would force their first, three and out as FR Lucas Farmer would come up with his second sack of the night, blindsiding the quarterback for a big play. Cascade would only need five plays to extend the lead to 14 with SO Dayton Mink capping off a five play drive with a nine yard rush. Cascade defense would force three more three and outs and the offense would continue to pour on points. SR Damien Appleby would find pay dirt from 27 yards out and SO Brady Trebley would connect with SO JT Roshong for a 24 yard touchdown pass to close out the quarter with the Cadets leading the Mustangs 28-0. Cascade would open up the second quarter with the football. Hege, Appleby, Mink and Savini would all receive carries on the drive, but SO Brady Trebley would connect with FR Trent Austin for a 18 yard touchdown catch to extend the lead 35-0. On the very next series for defense, SR Jackson Cornelius would come up with three of his four tackles forcing another three and out for Edgewood. After a bobbled snap by the Mustang punter, Cascade was in perfect field position. Cadets would need two plays on the back of SO Toby Savini to push the lead 42-0. The defense would keep the physicality going with SR Damien Appleby making the first two tackles of the series and forcing a long 3rd down. Edgewood Mustangs would be 0-10 on 3rd down conversions throughout the night. On the very next possession, SO Dayton Mink would break loose for a 27 yard touchdown and his 3rd touchdown of the night pushing the lead 49-0. With three timeouts and 2:58 left on the clock, Cascade would look to force another stop and put one more score on the board. SO JT Roshong would come up with an interception giving the Cascade offense the ball back with 1:13 left in the quarter. The Cascade offense would drive 54 yards on 6 plays, capping off with SR Damien Appleby breaking through the line for a 28 yard touchdown run. Cascade would lead at halftime 56-0. To start the second half of the game, Cascade would pull all starters out, but on the kickoff return, FR Caleb Powers would not field the ball cleanly and be tackled on the 1 yard line. Cascade would be forced to their only three and out of the night forcing a punt on their own one yard line. Edgewood would get their only two points of the night by the way of the punt team after SR Chase Durbin would snap the ball over punter FR Mason Howard’s head out the back of the end zone. On the next possession the Mustang offense would find their way into Cadets territory only for the second time on the night. Cascade defense would force a 4th and 2 and SR Damein Appleby and FR Caleb Powers would come up with the tackle for a loss and turnover on downs. Two plays later, JR Tyler Hege would get the handoff to the right side, burst through the line of scrimmage and would win the race to the end zone for a 55 yard touchdown run. 2A Cascade would go on to win Friday Night 63-2 over 4A Edgewood. Cascade moves to 2-1 on the season, while Edgewood drops to 1-2. Cascade starts 2-1 for the first time since 2018 and 20th time in school history, dating back to the first inaugural season in 1966. Cascade will be back at home next week vs Cloverdale Clovers for Homecoming before their 3 game away stretch versus Lutheran, North Putnam and Owen Valley.
