Game #2- Cascace @ North Putnam

By Jeff Franklin | Aug 17, 2022 11:35 PM

The Lady Cadets traveled to North Putnam tonight for their second game of the season. The Cadets lost their first game of the year and look for a rebound win. For the Lady Cougars, the game with Cascade will be their third game of the season and their current record stands at 0-2. The Lady Cadets hosted North Putnam last season and defeated the Cougars 1-0. As the Lady Cadets traveled to North Putnam High School, the Cadets used the travel time to help organize their attacking formation and defensive intensity. Right from the start of the game, the Cadets came out with an intensity that was missing on Monday evening. The new grass field that North Putnam had constructed was very firm and that helped the Cadets move the ball easily toward the Lady Cougar goal. The Lady Cadets were able to get numerous shots on the goal in the first 10:00 of the game but none of them were able to go in. Grace Trump was finally able to score the first goal of the game off of an Anna Burns crossing pass into the goal box. This goal was the first goal of the season for Grace and Anna’s first assist on the season. As the Lady Cadets kept moving the soccer ball forward with good pace, they began to move the ball through the defense with better passing accuracy. The Cadets’ second goal of the game was scored by Anna Burns off of a great touch pass from Trinity Reitzel. Trinity’s centering pass to Anna allowed Anna to face up and make three good dribbles toward the goal and blast the ball past the Lady Cougar goalie. Once the Cadets got the two goal lead, they started practicing on moving the ball with better speed and accuracy. This new emphasis allowed the deeper positions to help build up the offensive attack against North Putnam. Better ball movement helped the Lady Cadets score their third goal of the game when Anna Burns received a great pass from the back and passed the ball through the North Putnam defense directly to Creedance Chittenden. Creedance pushed the ball into the back of the net for a Cascade goal with about 8:45 left in the first half. With a three goal lead at halftime, the Lady Cadets tried to add a couple more goals with an emphasis on disciplined passing and good offensive movements. It didn’t take long in the second half for the Lady Cadets to get shots back on the Lady Cougars goalie. The best example of the Lady Cadets’ second half focus was when Anna Burns won the ball back in the center of the field and passed back to Ainsley Engel. Ainsley then made a tremendous lob pass to a cutting Creedance Chittenden, who touched the ball toward the goal and settled the ball into the back of the net for a 4-0 Cascade lead. The goal was Creedance’s second of the game and Ainsley’s assist was her first of the season. The last goal for the Lady Cadets was scored when Anna Burns received an excellently weighted pass from Ava Cook just above the penalty box. This well positioned pass allowed Anna to take a square dribble to the goal and blast the ball above the goalie’s shoulder for her second goal of the game. The Lady Cadet coaches were able to move players around the field and give short opportunities for all players to get some rest off the field. The victory for the Cadets bumps their season record to 1-1 with the team’s next game on Saturday, August 20th against conference rival Beech Grove. The game is expected to start at 10:00 a.m. Game Summary Cascade 3 - 2 5 North Putnam 0 - 0 0 Goals/Assists: Goal: Grace Trump (1), Assist: Anna Burns (1) Goal: Anna Burns (1) Goal: Creedance Chittenden (2), Assist: Anna Burns (2) Goal: Creedance Chittenden (3), Assist: Ainsley Engel (1) Goal: Anna Burns (2), Assist: Ava Cook (2)
