Cascade looked to bounce back after a week one loss to Triton Central. Cadets hosted 4A Beech Grove Hornets for an Indiana Crossroads Conference Match-Up featuring two different styles of teams. Beech Groves Spread offense vs Cascades Wing-T Offense. Both teams entered the contest 0-1 with week one losses. Coach Bryce King was honored at the game with his family being honorary captains at the opening coin toss. The Cadet offense got off to a slow start Friday Night with the three opening series for the offense ending in a punt, turnover and punt. Beech Grove won the field position battle early on maintaining the ball in scoring position. Beech Grove took a 7-0 early lead when the Hornets connected on a pass down the right sideline. On the ensuing kickoff, Freshman Toby Savini, found himself a lane up the left sideline setting the offense up for great field position at the -44 yard line. Cadets drove down to the 34 yard line in 5 plays, but found themselves in a 4th and 5 situation. Playing aggressive, Cascade elected to take the chance early on to go for it. Freshman Quarterback Brady Trebley booted out left and found a wide open Senior Liam Farmer in the flats. Farmer was able to make two Hornets defenders miss and take it in for the score. Cadets took a 8-7 lead on the 2 point conversion attempt. Cadets would get the ball back after the defense came up with a fumble recover by Junior Brayden Cartmel. The offense came back on the field. Cadets would go on a 10 play 44 yard drive ending in a Liam Farmer rushing touchdown to take a 14-7 lead. Cascade offense went on to convert two 4th down conversions on the drive. Junior Kick Chase Scharr on the ensuing kickoff pinned the Hornets back inside their own five yard line after the returner fumble the ball out of bounds on the catch. Hornets managed to march their way down the field with 2 big penalties and a 50 yard run. Cascade defense stood tall on the goal line, but Beech Grove would go on to convert 2 4th downs to shrink the lead 14-13 going into halftime. Cadets kickoff team was a vital part in the win Friday Night. Schnarr was able to pin the ball back deep and Freshman Marcus Hobson made 2 huge tackles on two difference kickoffs. Out of halftime, Cascade defense would to hold the Hornets coming out to set the Cadet offense up with great field position and opportunity to grow the lead. Cadets would go on an 8 play 69 yard drive capped off with Farmers 3rd touchdown of the night. Cadets went for the 2 point conversion where Farmer found Damien Appleby in the corner to take two possession lead 22-13. Cascades defense continued to play assignment defense in the second half. Cadets were able to force the Hornets Quarterback to feel uncomfortable all night. Cascade held the Hornets again to a 2nd consecutive punt to start the 2nd half. Cadets offense would drive all the way down to the 5 yard line on the backs of the offensive line, however, a fumbled exchange from quarterback to running back seemed to be the difference maker in another touchdown for the Cadets. After the Hornets defense held the Cadets out of the end zone to keep the game within 2 possessions, they were able to drive to the Cadets 28 yard line. But the Cascade defense stood tall on a 4th and 2, when Sophomore Linebacker Josiah Murrain and Senior Defensive End Devon Weigle were able to make the tackle on a quarterback run play to force a turnover on downs. Cadets would get the ball back and go on a 13 play 70 yard drive to put the dagger in the Hornets. Cascade converted on two 3rd downs and a 4th & 9 to keep the drive rolling. Senior Running back Liam Farmer, capped the drive off with a 10 yard touchdown run to take a 28-13 lead. Hornets would drive down the field to keep the pressure on the Cadets, but Senior Defensive End Devon Weigle get two sacks on back to back plays putting the Hornets in a long down situation. The secondary would stand tall on 3rd and 4th down to force the turnover on downs. Cascade entered the best formation in football for the first time this year, VICTORY FORMATION.
