Game #6- Monrovia v. Cascade

By Jeff Franklin | Aug 30, 2022 11:20 PM

The Lady Cadets Soccer team hosted the Lady Bulldogs from Monrovia as part of a boy/girl doubleheader. Tonight’s game is the sixth game for the Lady Cadets whose record has fallen to 2-3 after the 1-0 loss to Cardinal Ritter last Thursday night. Both Monrovia and Cascade entered the game with 1-1 records in the ICC and both teams were coming off losses from last week. Last season, the Lady Cadets and Lady Bulldogs played an intensely physical game that ended in a 6-1 victory for the Lady Cadets. In the past two seasons, the soccer games between the Monrovia and Cascade girls soccer teams have been very good and displayed clear reflections of where the two teams were emotionally and technically at during that part of the season. This season, the Monrovia Lady Bulldogs have been on a wild ride of offensive success. Twice the Lady Bulldogs have “mercy ruled” an opponent and this young Bulldog team has only one loss to date. The Lady Cadets are still adjusting their lineup and bringing kids back onto the active playing roster. Tonight, Mallory Laughlin and Creedance Chittenden returned to game action with a plan to help keep the Cadets close with the explosive Lady Bulldog offense. Regrettably, that explosive Bulldog offense struck early and often at the Lady Cadets goal. With only 10:00 off the game clock, the Cadets were down 3-0 and looked lost in their defensive organization. This 3-0 lead showed in full force the domination that the Lady Bulldogs have been able to exercise over their opponents. Whether the shot was taken from nearly 30 yards away or on a fast break, the Lady Bulldogs capitalized on frequent Lady Cadet turnovers and mistakes. At the end of the first half, the scoreboard lit up Monrovia 5 and Cascade 0 with the running clock now in effect for the second half. Once the second half got started, Monrovia pulled a good portion of their starters off of the field and allowed reserve players to get considerable playing time in the second half. As the first half physicality and intensity lowered during the second half, the Cadets and Bulldogs moved the ball back and forth smoothly. The Lady Bulldogs scored one more goal before the end of the game and Anna Burns scored the only goal for the Lady Cadets off of an excellent pass from Emily Nava. The goal was Anna’s sixth of the season and Emily’s assist was her first goal assist ever. The Lady Cadets loss moves their record to 2-4 (1-2 ICC) and the Bulldogs are now 5-1 (2-1 ICC). The next Cadets game will be on Thursday, September 1st when they host fellow ICC member Triton Central. The game is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. Game Summary Cascade 0 - 1 0 Monrovia 5 - 1 6 Goals: Anna Burns (6) A: Emily Nava (1)
