Cascade was back at home this past week against one of the perennial powers in the lower level classes, Indianapolis Lutheran. Cascade would receive the opening kickoff and would be held to an immediate 3 and out. Cadets and Lutheran would exchange punts on the opening two drives. On the second possession for the Cadets, FR Brady Trebley would Find JR Logan Gibbs in the flat for a 22 yard gain to get them out of a tough position on the field. But the drive stalled and momentum would be given to the Saints on a 3rd and 7 interception to give them Saints good field position. The Saints would take over and need only two plays to take an 8-0 lead. On the ensuing kickoff, SR Devon Weigle would have the ball stripped and recovered by the Saints. Cadets defense would stand tall, starting with a sack on 1st down by JR Wyatt Nohren and SR Devon Weigle. Cadets defense started the game forcing the Saints into multiple punt and 4th down situations. Cadets would go on to drive the ball down to the Saints 32 yard line, but would be stopped after playing aggressively on 4th down. Momentum stayed with Lutheran and the Saints drove down in 7 plays to take a 16-0 lead in the ball game. On the ensuing kickoff, FR Toby Savini would get a great return down the left sideline and set the Cadets offense up 59 yards from the end zone. Cascade would drive 5 plays 59 yards. SR Liam Farmer would find the end zone from 7 yards out for his 12th rushing touchdown of the year. Lutheran would drive down to the Cadets 14 yard line threatening to score, but Cascades defensive front would hold the Saints to a 4th and one play. Lutheran decided to go through the air, but a low throw caused the receiver to drop the ball and the Cadets would take over with 5:13 to play and 1 timeout. Cascade’s offense would drive down the field methodically, using their no-huddle wing-t sets. Cadets would convert on two 3rd down conversions on the drive. With 26 seconds left in the half, facing a 2nd and 10 situation, FR Brady Trebley would find JR Logan Gibbs for a 33 yard touchdown pass to bring the Cadets within 4. Cascade would fail the two point conversion attempt and go into halftime down 12-16 to Class 1A #1 Lutheran. Cadets came out aggressive in the second half with an onside kick, but the ball never traveled 10 yards setting Lutheran up with great field position. The Saints would drive down and take a 22-12 lead after a 21 yard touchdown pass. On the ensuing possession, Cadets would be haunted by two false start penalties forcing a punt situation giving the ball back to the Saints. Cascade’s defense would get a big stand forcing the Saints to a 3 and out. The big turning point of the night came on the next offensive possession for the Cadets. Cascade found themselves backed up and on 3rd and 7, a bad exchange in the backfield on the handoff, Lutheran would scoop and score the ball taking a 29-12 lead. That seemed to be the back breaker for Cascade. Lutheran never looked back, scoring on passes from 69 yards, 44 yards and 61 yards expanding the lead to 50-12. Cascade would drive back down the field, but another fumbled exchange left the Cadets without any points. Cadets would go on to turn the ball over 5 times, 4 fumbles and 1 interception. Farmer Continues His Success SR Liam Farmer Friday Night became the 5th 2,000 yard rusher in Cascade history with 2,002 yards. Farmer also moved into 5th place all time in single season rushing touchdowns with 12. Farmer continues to add his name to the record book and inch his way closer to single season and career yards and touchdowns.
