Girls Soccer Game #8 Monrovia v. Cascade, 9/9/24

By Jeff Franklin | Sep 9, 2024 10:20 PM

The Lady Bulldogs and Lady Cadets were originally scheduled to play each other before the Labor Day break but extreme heat that week pushed the administrations at both schools to reschedule for Week 6. The Cascade and Monrovia girls soccer teams have both been successful small soccer programs in the past couple of seasons. Monrovia has won two sectional titles in a row in the 2A division while the Lady Cadets won sectional titles in 2021 and 2022 in 1A division. The most recent IHSAA sports enrollment realignment switched the Cadets and Bulldogs in divisions. The Lady Cadets are now participating in the 2A division while Monrovia has moved down to the 1A division. In the opening 20:00 of the game, the Cadets withstood everything that Monrovia threw at them and even gave some shots right back that startled the Lady Bulldogs on their defensive end. But at about the 20:00 in the first half, a couple of Cascade defensive mistakes opened up the scoring for the Lady Bulldogs. In the next 10:00 minutes, the Lady Bulldogs would score 5 goals and completely push the game out of reach for the Lady Cadets. By the halftime whistle the 5-0 lead for the Lady Bulldogs felt much larger because of the amount of shots taken at the Cascade goal and total amount of time Monrovia controlled the ball in the first half. But the Lady Cadets did create some scoring opportunities that moved the defensive players back but those few efforts never materialized into a scored goal. The second half resembled much of the first half but substitutions from Monrovia slowed much of their scoring attack. The Lady Bulldogs did get up to 8 goals on the evening but never achieved that mercy rule number of 9 goals. The 8-0 loss to Monrovia is the third loss in a row for the Lady Cadets to the Lady Bulldogs. The Lady Cadets last beat Monrovia in 2021 on their way to the ICC Championship and an IHSAA Sectional championship. The 2024-2025 Girls Soccer record now stands at 4-3-1. The ISCA 1A #11 Lady Bulldogs remain undefeated on the season with a 6-0 record. The Lady Cadets now prepare for Thursday’s away game at West Vigo. This will be the second time the West Vigo Lady Vikings and Cadets have met this season. In the first meeting, the Cadets won 3-0. Game Summary Cascade 0 Monrovia 8
