For their first game of the 2025 Girls Soccer season, the Lady Cadets hosted the North Putnam Lady Cougars. This was the first game for both teams in the newly formed Monon Athletic conference that includes Greecastle, Crawfordsville, Southmont, North Montgomery, Frankfort, and Western Boone. Cascade played their sports last season as an independent school and North Putnam participated the last couple of years as members of Western Indiana Conference. This early season meeting between the Lady Cadets and Lady Cougars goes back over 10 years with Lady Cadets having won the last couple of meetings between the two teams. Last year, the Cascade defeated North Putnam 6-2. With a limited number of subs on the bench for their first game, the Lady Cadets played most of the first half from a defensive position in an attempt to keep the team fresh. With quick passing up the field, the Lady Cadets were able to create a couple of good scoring chances in the first half but the ball never crossed the goal line. Some positive pressure late in the first half from the Cadet midfielders caused a North Putnam turnover deep in the Lady Cougars’ defensive end that led to the Cadets scoring their first goal of the game. From the indirect kick position, Autumn Chattin took a quick tap on the ball and Ruthie Trump kicked the ball through the legs of the North Putnam goalie. The 1-0 lead for Cascade held the rest of the first half. After the halftime, the rested Cadets retook the field with a similar strategy that helped them get their goal in the first half. The first 20 minutes of the second half produced only a couple of shots for the Cadets but the players and the fans started to feel that the game pace was starting to change. Slowly, Cascade started to get some open breakaways up the field that sent the Lady Cougars’ defense scrambling. Finally, Regan Franklin broke through the defensive line and scored a second Lady Cadets goal with 15:28 remaining. North Putnam scored their only goal of the game almost immediately after the Cadets’ second goal of the game and reenergized the good sized North Putnam crowd as well as the team bench. Ruthie Trump and Regan Franklin paired up again to score the Lady Cadets’ third goal of the game. Once Regan Franklin scored her third goal of the game with 11:14 remaining, the Cadets took a 4-1 lead and commanded the flow of the game. Ruthie Trump scored her second goal of the game with just a couple of minutes remaining in the game and both teams finished the game by just winding down the clock. The 5-1 win for Cascade begins their season with a record of 1-0 (1-0 Monon Conference). The Lady Cougars season record falls to 0-1 (0-1 Monon). The Lady Cadets will get a couple of days practice and then return to the pitch on Saturday, August 23rd when they face the Southmont Lady Mounties. Facing the Lady Mounties will be the second Monon conference game in a row for the Lady Cadets.
