For their fifth game of the season, the Lady Cadets (1-3) finally took to the road for an away game. The Cadets traveled over to Indian Creek High School to play the Lady Braves (2-3) as a legacy game from both schools’ membership in the Western Indiana Athletic Conference (WIC). Both schools are now out of the WIC but they hope to keep a friendly non-conference game on the schedule for years to come. Indian Creek is now part of the Hoosier Legends Conference while Cascade has moved into the Monon Conference. Last season, the Lady Cadets defeated Indian Creek 8-1. The play by both teams in the opening minutes of the first half could have been best described as erratic and unstructured. Neither team pressured the goal with good offensive shots nor developed any good rhythm that grabbed possession of the ball cleanly and confidently. The ball bounced loosely across the field from sideline to sideline and it wasn’t until the Lady Cadets starting lineup began to physically wear down did the Lady Braves start getting some good play. With about 15:00 remaining in the first half, the Lady Braves finally did get a couple of good shots that were saved by the Cadets goalie. Finally, the Lady Braves got a breakaway straight toward the Cadets goal and they shot the ball into the corner to take a 1-0 lead in the game. The first half ended with the Cadets a bit frustrated in their 1-0 deficit but optimistic that they could get the game back to level. With a couple of small positional changes, the Lady Cadets found some really good ball movement throughout the opening 20:00 of the second half. This good ball movement by the Lady Cadets helped spread the Lady Braves defense out and gave the exhausted Cadets defense some time to gather and rest. The best opportunity for the Lady Cadets to score a game tying goal came in a flurry of shots right in front of the goal that bounced off the Lady Braves shins and out of clean reach for the attacking team. In the end, the Cadets never got a game tying goal and spent much of the last minutes of the game having to defend their own end from a second scoring goal. The game ended for the Cadets with a disappointing 1-0 loss to Indian Creek. Tonight’s tough loss drops the Lady Cadets record down to 1-4 (1-2 Monon Conference). The Lady Braves even their season record at 3-3. Indian Creek’s next girls soccer game will be on Thursday when they host the Lady Golden Bears from Shelbyville. The Lady Cadets next game will be another legacy WIC game when they travel to Edgewood High School on Thursday evening. The game will start at 7:30 p.m. Game Summary 1H 2H OT Final Cascade 0 0 0 Indian Creek 1 0 1
