The Lady Cadets (1-4) traveled down to Ellettsville to finish off the week’s game schedule with a game against Edgewood High School (4-0-1). The Lady Cadets and Lady Mustangs were realigned last season into the same IHSAA 2A Sectional. With Edgewood having been designated as the host site for Sectional 27, the Lady Cadets looked forward to the chance to play on the Sectional field and get some minutes on the unfamiliar grass field. Last season, the Cadets and Mustangs played a really exciting 1-0 game that was won by Edgewood despite the Cascade outshooting them 12-2. With Cascade playing another game with a limited roster, the Cadets made some defensive and offensive changes that helped them play their best total game of the season. The Lady Cadets team made no substitutions in the first half and did their best to keep Edgewood’s offensive attack at bay. Cascade only took one shot in the first half but they also kept the Lady Mustang’s scoring to one goal despite the numerous shots they threw at the Cadets goalie. The goal scored by the Lady Mustangs was an amazing free kick from about 30 yards out and tucked perfectly under the top crossbar. The first half ended 1-0 in favor of Edgewood. For the second half, the Lady Cadets regrouped their energy and effort and found clever ways to frustrate the Edgewood offense rhythm and get some really good shots at the Lady Mustangs goal. Despite these good shots, none of these shots made it into the back of the goal. But also none of the Edgewood shots went into the goal in the second half and the game became an exciting back and forth competition between the two schools. As the Cadets played out in the last minutes of the game, they felt as victorious as if they had a three goal lead because the Lady Cadets had put together their best games of the season. Tonight’s 1-0 loss for the Cadets drops their record down to 1-5 (1-2 Monon Conference). The Lady Mustangs (5-0-1) continue their strong start of the season with another win and clean sheet. Edgewood will play again next Tuesday as they travel to Brown County. The Lady Cadets will return home for a conference game against Crawfordsville on Tuesday and then go on the road for six games in a row. The Cadets game on Tuesday will start at 6:00 p.m. Game Summary 1H 2H Final Cascade 0 0 0 Edgewood 1 0 1
