The Lady Cadets (1-5, 1-2 Monon) returned home after some games on the road as they hosted the Lady Athenians from Crawfordsville High School on Tuesday. This home game for Cascade will start the toughest stretch of the season for the team as they play a spread of 4 games over the next 7 days. This is the first time that the two schools have played each other as members of the new Monon Conference. The Lady Athenians come into the game with a 3-2-1 (2-0 Monon) and having an extended break between games that could help energize the team for a key conference game. Coming off of last week’s improved play, the Lady Cadets were looking for a chance to pick up another Monon Conference win tonight or to at least play well enough to keep up their momentum. Sadly, neither of these things happened tonight. The Lady Athenians came right after the Cadets and just dominated play in the first half scoring 7 goals. The Cadets did play well offensively and defensively in the first 15:00 of the game and only yielded a goal to Crawfordsville which could have been noted as a Cascade mistake. About halfway through the first half, the Lady Athenians found good offensive patterns that allowed them to individually attack the Cadet defense and put on a scoring barrage where they netted 5 goals in about 11 minutes. This scoring stretch decimated the will of the Cadets and the first half ended 7-0 in favor of the Athenians. The second half was not much better for the Cadets and at about 11:18 remaining in the game, the Athenians put the Cadets away with their 9th goal of the game. Tonight’s 9-0 loss for the Cadets drops their record down to 1-6 (1-3 Monon Conference). The Lady Athenians kept their undefeated record in the Monon Conference and improved their overall record to 3-3-1 (3-0) as well as recording a clean sheet. Crawfordsville will travel to Bethesda Christian for their next game while the Cadets will head over to Terre Haute to play West Vigo High School.
