SETTING THE SCENE Friday Night Lights roll into Week 8 as the Cascade Cadets are back at home to face the Southmont Mounties in a crucial 7-0 Monon Athletic Conference showdown. Riding a 16 game regular-season winning streak, Cascade looks to keep its momentum going as the race for the conference title tightens down the stretch with the winner of this game becoming sole leader in the Conference Championship race. The Cadets, coming off a blowout win against Greencastle Tiger Cub 98-13, now shift their focus to a physical Southmont squad that thrives on ball control and discipline. The Mounties feature a traditional Wing-T and Triple Option attack, designed to eat up the clock and wear down defenses. Their ability to sustain long drives will test Cascade’s front seven and defensive discipline for four full quarters. On the other side, Cascade will lean on its own high-tempo, hybrid Wing-T offense, pounding the ball on the ground, speeding up the tempo, and creating explosive play opportunities. The Cadets will look to set the tone early, win the line of scrimmage, and maintain the intensity that has carried them to the top of the standings. With the conference championship picture taking shape and a streak on the line, this Week 8 road matchup has all the makings of a gritty, hard fought Friday night battle between two physical football teams. CADET NOTES For the second straight year, Cascade is off to a perfect 7-0 start. Cascade opened up the regular season with two convincing wins over rivals, Monrovia and Danville. Since MAC play, Cascade has won in dominating fashion with a high scoring offense and a stifling defense. Offensively, Cascade brings in one of the top scoring offenses in the state averaging 60.6 points per game and a stout defense giving up 11.1 points per game. Cascade is coming off a big road victory over Greencastle 98-13 holding one of the state's best statistical quarterbacks to 200 yards, 50% completion percentage and 3 turnovers. UNDER CENTER FOR THE CADETS Senior quarterback Brady Trebley is under center, commanding Cascade’s no-huddle Wing-T offense. Through week seven of the season, he has been as efficient as the best of them in Indiana High School Football, Trebley has completed 76-100 for 1,252 yards and 18 touchdowns. He also has added 142 yards on the ground and 3 touchdowns. Last week vs Greencastle, Trebley completed the perfect game going 8-8 for 109 yards and 3 touchdowns. Behind him, sophomore Luke Austin and freshman Mason Minner will provide depth in the quarterback room for the future Cadets. Brady Trebley Ranks in Career Passing History: Passing Yards (Career): 3rd (3,916) Passing TDs (Career): 1st (58) Completions (Career): 3rd (229) Completion % (Career): 1st (65.8%) RUN DOMINANCE Cascade will head into week 8 vs Southmont with a four headed rushing attack that can strike on any play. Last week against Greencastle, the Cadets’ backfield were an explosive bunch rushing for 315 yards on just 27 carries. Dayton Mink made the most of his touches, racking up 64 yards and 3 touchdowns on just 7 carries. Farmer showcased his game-breaking speed with 64 yards and 2 touchdowns on 5 carries, while Toby Savini received 5 touches, 70 yards and two touchdowns combined on the ground and through the air. With multiple weapons capable of taking it the distance on any snap, this backfield will be a key factor as Cascade looks to wear down the 2A Southmont's tough defense that only gives up 190 yards of offense per game and extend their regular-season and Monon winning streak. Dayton Mink & Toby Savini Career Rushing Ranks: Rushing Yards: Savini 4th (2,613) / Mink 5th (2,438) Rushing Touchdowns: Savini 4th (30) / Mink 2nd (38) Yards Per Rush: Savini 1st (9.61) / Mink 5th (6.38) Career Scoring: Savini 1st (282) / Mink 2nd (254) PASS CATCHERS Cascade’s wide receiver group is deep and experienced this season, led by seniors Marcus Hobson, JT Roshong, and Delton Howrey, with junior Cooper Lievens adding additional depth. Heading into the Week 8 matchup against Southmont, the Cadets will be in full health. This group brings big-play potential to the edge of Cascade’s otherwise run-heavy offense, providing balance and the ability to stretch the field, a key factor as the Cadets look to keep defenses from loading the box against their powerful rushing attack. Last week against Greencastle, the wide receiver group caught 3 passes for 46 yards and 2 touchdowns. SR Marcus Hobson leads the group with 504 yards receiving and 11 touchdowns. SR JT Roshong has hauled in 10 catches for 113 yards and 1 touchdown. Marcus Hobson Season / Career Receiving Ranks: Seasons Receiving Touchdowns: Hobson 3rd (11) Career Receiving Touchdowns: Hobson 4th (17) PHYSICALITY & VERSATILITY ON THE EDGE Cascade’s tight end group will continue to play a vital role in both the run and pass game, led by senior Braxton Lewis. Seniors Royce Bright and junior Trent Austin add quality depth, with all three bringing significant varsity experience dating back to their freshman seasons. Lewis is a physical force up front, consistently creating running lanes for Cascade’s explosive backfield while also serving as a reliable target in the passing game. In Week 4 against North Montgomery, Lewis hauled in two receptions for 35 yards, while Austin added one catch for 30 yards. In the Week 5 matchup against Frankfort, Lewis caught one pass for 13 yards, showcasing his versatility. The tight end group had a quiet night in the pass game, but their presence was still felt in the run game. As the Cadets prepare for their Week 8 game against Southmont, look for this group to continue being a dominant presence in the run game while providing timely contributions through the air when needed. HOGS UP FRONT The Cadets’ offensive line has been a major driving force behind Cascade’s success early in the 2025 season, paving the way for an offense that is averaging 444 yards per game. In Week 7 against Greencastle, this unit delivered its most dominant performance yet, helping the Cadets rack up an impressive 437 total yards of offense and a school record 98 points. This year’s line features one senior, two juniors, and two sophomores, with only one returning starter from last season. Senior Brody Duncan provides leadership and stability up front, while juniors Wyatt Minardo and Dillon Setty hold down the tackle spots with toughness and consistency. Sophomore Eric Appleby starts at center, and sophomore Gunner White rounds out the group at left guard. Despite their youth, this line has quickly developed into a physical, cohesive unit, setting the tone for Cascade’s fast, run-heavy attack and giving their deep backfield room to thrive. Their continued growth will be key as the Cadets enter the heart of the conference schedule, starting with their Senior Night match up vs Southmont. RUN GAME STOPPERS Cascade’s defensive front will look to control the line of scrimmage in their Week 8 matchup against Air Raid Greencastle offense. Senior Dominic Appleby returned as an experienced starter for his final season, while junior Wyatt Minardo, Bentley McClellan, and Jacob Healy anchored the interior with strength and consistency. This group has been the tone-setter for physicality, and last week against Greencastle, they turned in their most dominant performance of the season, holding the Athenians to just 31 yards rushing and tallying 10.5 tackles for a loss and 6 sacks. With momentum building, Cascade’s defensive line will aim to set the tone early, slow down Southmont’s rushing attack, and keep the pressure high on the road. HIT SQUAD Cascade’s most experienced defensive unit lines up at linebacker, where seniors Braxton Lewis, Toby Savini, and Baynx Stirling, along with sophomore TJ Turner, will get the start for the Week match up against Southmont. Junior Trent Austin will provide depth as the primary backup to the outside linebackers. This group brings a strong combination of leadership, toughness, and athleticism, making them a key component of Cascade’s defense. In Week 7 against Greencastle, TJ Turner led the team with 8 tackles, 2 TFLs, and 2 sacks. SR Braxton Lewis added in another 6 tackles. This group has been known for setting the physicality in games and doesn’t shy away from contact. This linebacker unit will be critical in slowing down Southmont’s offensive attack and setting the defensive tone early. NO FLY ZONE Cascade’s secondary is led by seniors Marcus Hobson and JT Roshong, along with juniors Lucas Farmer and Michael Langley. Since letting up 226 yards through the air on big plays during the North Montgomery week 4 contest, Cascade No Fly Zone has been on a tear, giving up just 101 yards per game through the air on the season. Heading into the Week 8 matchup against Southmont, Cadets will have to be disciplined for Southmont’s wing-t offensive attack. With added depth and confidence, Cascade’s defensive backfield is ready to play a pivotal role as the Cadets push into the second half of the 2025 season. KICKERS Junior Brogan Trump continues the kicking duties for the Cadets. Trump has been almost automatic for the PATs. For the season, Trump is 56-59 on the year, had a record breaking PAT game vs Greencastle converting 12 of 12 to break the PAT record in a single game (Previously held by Brogan Trump, 2025) and leads the state in all 6 classes for PATs made. Trump is inching closer to the single season PAT record, previously set by Max Stucky in 2024). Trump averages 49 yards on his kickoffs. SR Gabriel Glaze is another weapon that has come on strong in the kickoff department averaging 54.5 yards per kick with 9 touchbacks on the season. SCOUTING THE MOUNTIES Southmont is led by 19th year Head Coach Desson Hannum. He is 93-108 overall at Southmont. Last week, Southmont defeated Western Boone 26-23 in a defensive match up. Southmont has been cruising through the Monon Athletic Conference schedule with their toughest match up coming this Friday against the Cascade Cadets. The Mounties are led by SR RB/LB Avery Stadler with 846 yards rushing and 10 touchdowns on offense and 45 tackles with 13 tackles for a loss on defense. 2025 Schedule Week 0: @ Linton Week 1: Monrovia W 48-6 Week 2: @ Danville W 41-25 Week 3: @ North Putnam W 42-6 Week 4: North Montgomery W 63-26 Week 5: @ Frankfort W 77-0 Week 6: Crawfordsville (Homecoming) W 55-3 Week 7: @ Greencastle W 98-13 Week 8: Southmont (Senior Night) Week 9: @ Western Boone Week 10: Sectional Quarterfinal Week 11: Sectional Semifinal Week 12: IHSAA Sectional Championship Week 13: IHSAA Regional Championship Week 14: IHSAA Semi-State Championship Week 15: IHSAA State Championship VARSITY COACHING STAFF HEAD COACH Connor Simmons 6th year at Cascade with an overall record of 35-26 Most Wins in School History: 1: Connor Simmons 35 2: Derek Moyers 34 3: Gary Satterfield 31 4: Darrin Fisher 22 5: Steve Parks 17 2025: 7-0 2024: 10-1 (3A Sectional Semifinal) 2023: 6-5 (2A Sectional Semifinal) 2022: 6-5 (2A Sectional Semifinal) 2021: 3-7 2020: 3-8 (2A Sectional Semifinal) ASSISTANT COACHES Troy Edwards (DC - year 3) Matt Minardo (QB - year 6) Tony Appleby (DL - year 4) Cam Ginter (DL - year 2) Chris Appleby (OL - year 5) Don Rushton (ILB - year 3) Tim Horning (STC/RB - year 6) Connor Horning (STC/RB - year 4) Steve Phillips (WR - year 3) Kyle Krober (RB - year 1) STUDENT MANAGERS Addison Littrell, Haley Terhune, Evan Dixon, Holly Jay-Slingerland MEDICAL STAFF Athletic Trainer: Meghan Clairday ADMINISTRATION Superintendent: Brian Tomamichel Assistant Superintendent: Kale Blickenstaff Principal: Jeff Hansel Assistant Principal: Julia Crone Athletic Director: Scott Stevens CASCADE SPORTS Follow CHS Athletics on Facebook (Cascade High School Athletics), Twitter (@Cadethletics), and online (cascadecadets.com) for more information on our sports and football program.
