In a defensive slugfest, the Chesterton varsity girls basketball team opened up DAC play on Wednesday night with a win over visiting Lake Central. The defense of the Trojans held LC to 6 points in the middle two quarters to build a lead that they never gave back. Playing without two injured starters, the team was led in scoring by junior Novea Brandon with 11 points. Freshman Ella Boyanski scored 9 in the first half. Sophomores Lindsi McGuffey and Taylor Kisic each scored 6 points in the win. The team is now 5-2 on the season and 1-0 in conference play. They will next be in action on Tuesday as they travel down to Rensselaer.
