The Varsity Baseball team remains unbeaten in the Duneland Conference after Dylan Bradford's dominating complete game shut out over Lake Central. The senior flame thrower was who the coaching staff thought he was in this one as he allowed only one hit while striking six over his seven innings of work. Bradford did allow six walks, but they were strategically placed and unaccompanied by any hits to minimize any possible damage. The 3-0 victory gives the Trojans a baker's dozen against three defeats and runs the "Hard Hat Player of the Game's" record to 3-2 on the season and he sports an ERA of 3.652. The Trojans got on the board early in the contest pushing one run across in the opening frame on a rbi single to right off the bat of Eli McClelland(1-2, 2RBI). Rob Czarniecki(2-3, R) got things going with an infield hit that shortstop, Robinson, fielded as he ranged far to his left but had no chance of getting the fleet footed star that acted like a bread truck and hauled buns to the freshly painted bag at first. Troy Barrett(3-3, 2R, ) followed with a knock to center that he barreled up too hard and Czarniecki was gunned down at third on a controversial call by the home plate umpire even though it appeared Czarniecki got his hand on the bag well before the tag. Barrett took second on the throw and scored on the McClelland hit that fell softly just inside the right field line. The Indians leadoff hitter in the second split McClelland and the bag with a liner and the post-game show was cancelled. Bradford then fanned the next guy and induced a pitcher's best friend, 6-4-3 twin killing to end the inning. The second, third, and fourth innings saw nothing but goose eggs on the board as both pitchers found a groove and solid defense was displayed. Moving ahead to the home half of the fifth, the Trojans used some good old fashioned situational hitting to manufacture a couple of runs. The deadly duo of "Trob and Roy" (Czarniecki and Barrett from a previous chapter in the story of the '26 season) reached base with "Roy" thinking gap to gap on a shot through the middle and "Trob" stayed on top of a high heater lining to left putting speed on the bags and one down. McClelland stepped into the box and grounded to the shortstop, playing halfway depth, who fielded the roller and attempted to get Czarniecki who broke for the plate on contact. The throw was late as well as on the first base side allowing the run to score with a head-first slide wiping the dish with his oven mitt strapped to his left hand to score the second run driven in by McClelland. The catcher received the throw and fired to third trying to nab Barrett as he scampered safely in with a slide of his own. Junior catcher, Caden Hackett(0-2, RBI, SF), who gunned down a would-be base thief in the first, then connected on a sacrifice fly to center bringing in Barrett who tagged up from third with what proved to be the final score. Lake Central would threaten in sixth after the first two batters worked free 90's. With two men in black and blue uni's at first and second, Isaiah Prater(0-2, BB) ranged well to his right, up the middle, to glove a grounder destined for the outfield and elbow flipped over to Ethan Glassman(1-3,) at second for the fielder's choice force out. Bradford would throw some leather of his own showing off his PFP---pitchers fielding practice--- skills smothering a comebacker to the mound and tossing over to McClelland at first for the out as the other runners advanced to second and third. With two on and two out Bradford got Thuftedal to hit a lazy can of corn to sure handed Czarniecki in center to preserve the shutout. Glassman would single in the home half but was left stranded at second after advancing on a Nate Redman(0-3) ground out and Prater flied out to center for the final out of the at bat. Grace College commit, Bradford, really settled in at this point of the game and showed great confidence and composure filling up the strike zone even after a G Kirkland(0-2, BB) error at third with two in the wagon and one draggin'. With this one in the books, the Trojans have now won a baker's dozen and came up short three times over the sixteen-game season while remaining a perfect 8-0 in DAC play. The boys of spring get to enjoy a day off before hosting a feisty Hobart Brickies team Friday evening with the first pitch at 5:00.
