Chesterton Boys Track Falls One Point Short of DAC Title

The Chesterton boys track team narrowly finished runner-up at the 2026 DAC Championships on Wednesday at Valparaiso, scoring 130 points, just one point behind conference champion Merrillville’s 131. Crown Point placed third with 118.5 points. Chesterton was led by several event champions and strong all-around performances throughout the meet. Junior Weston Moore won the DAC title in the 100 meters in 11.33 and later added a third-place finish in the 200 meters in 22.51. Devin Throw also scored in the 200, placing sixth in 23.23. Nathan Vaughan had a standout night for the Trojans, finishing runner-up in the 300 hurdles in 39.26, winning the long jump with a leap of 23' 5.5", and helping lead Chesterton to the DAC championship in the 4x400 relay. Cal Wisniewski added a third-place finish in the 300 hurdles and placed second in the long jump at 21-5.75. The Trojans closed the meet with a win in the 4x400 relay as Vaughan, Wisniewski, Ben Phillips, and Louis Raffin combined to run 3:20.82. Raffin also placed third in the 110 hurdles in 15.57. Phillips added a third-place finish in the 400 meters in 51.00, while Patrick Mochen scored in the same event with a seventh-place finish. Chesterton’s distance group also delivered key points. Ryan Nix finished fourth in the 1600 meters and third in the 3200, while Spencer Martin placed fifth in the 1600 and third in the 800. Zarek Sierazy added a fifth-place finish in the 800, and Nick Jakel took fourth in the 3200. Chesterton’s 4x800 relay team of Sierazy, Martin, Ray Hundt, and William Morgan opened the meet with a runner-up finish in 8:25.39. In the field events, Carlos Leon placed third in the shot put with a throw of 51-8 and also competed in discus. Tyler Nevious added a sixth-place finish in the shot put. Colin Kellogg placed sixth in discus at 135-2. In the pole vault, Bryan Huseman finished fifth and Maddox McKinney placed sixth, both clearing 12 feet. In the high jump, Elijah Schnarr placed 10th after clearing 5-8, while Nolan Huley tied for 12th at 5-6.
