Eastern Baseball Coach Chas Adams begins first full season at helm of the Musketeers The Eastern Musketeers baseball program has a rich tradition having many successful seasons throughout its history, highlighted by a Final Four appearance at the State Finals in 2001. The Musketeers have won 8 Southern Athletic Conference Championships, 4 sectional titles, and a regional title. In 2019, Snyder Pennington was an All State player before going on to play at Greenville University. In 2001, Kellen Marshall was an Indiana baseball All-Star, before playing at Indiana Purdue Fort Wayne. 1987 Eastern graduate, Brad Pennington went on to play Major League Baseball when he was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles after he pitched for Vincennes University and Bellarmine. Eastern’s baseball field is named after legendary Musketeer coach Larry Ingram, who won 405 games at the helm of the Musketeers. Ingram's teams once owned a 27 conference game winning streak in the SAC from 1991-1995. Newly appointed head coach Chas Adams recently took the program over late in the 2024 season, as the interim coach, and began to instill discipline with the current players. Over the summer, Adams was named the head coach of the Musketeers and looks to lead the rebuild of Eastern’s baseball program that has fallen on tough times in recent years. This year’s Musketeers are a unique blend of seniors and underclassmen. They will rely on the seniors to lead the way and help the program gradually work its way back to becoming more competitive. Unfortunately, in the opening scrimmage, the Musketeers suffered a big blow, losing Centerfielder and Lead-off hitter, senior Martin Lewen, who is slated to play college baseball at the NAIA level in Oklahoma next year. (story coming soon). Lewen was hit in the face on the 3rd pitch of the scrimmage, breaking his orbital bone, which will keep him out for the season. The Musketeers have a solid group of middle school talent on the way. The team is off to a 2-0 start and should be an up-and-coming team to follow. Meet Coach Chas Adams: Coach Adams is a 2017 graduate of Floyd Central, where he was a successful pitcher for the Highlanders. During his prep career, Adams had a lot of success as a left-handed pitcher and earned a Prep Baseball Report All Star nod allowing him to play in their Futures game in 2015. After graduating from Floyd Central, Adams earned a full ride scholarship to Western Kentucky University. Sadly, he injured his shoulder and had to do a medical redshirt. Upon returning from injury, Adams transferred to NAIA baseball power Indiana University Southeast, to finish his career. In 2019, Adams led the Grenadiers pitching staff with a 9-3 record and 65 strikeouts over 74 ⅓ innings pitched. Adams had a 2.66 ERA and 0.86 WHIP (Walks/Hits per Innings Pitched) which is currently an IUS record. A true bulldog on the mound, Adams put up a strong performance for the Grenadiers and his name is all over the Grenadiers pitching record board. Adams is excited about his first full season as the skipper of the Musketeers and looks forward to rebuilding the program by instilling strong fundamental development, discipline and a bulldog mentality that will carry beyond the baseball field. “I want the boys to learn self-discipline and accountability during their time with me. These two things will prepare them for life after baseball”, stated Coach Adams. Chas and his wife, Bri, both teach special education for the East Washington School Corporation. They recently welcomed their newborn son, Casey, this past fall. Outside of spending time with his family and baseball, Chas is an avid coon-hunter and outdoorsman.
