The Lady Musketeers softball team pulled of a win of epic proportions on Tuesday night with a 2-1 win over visiting Silver Creek. Behind the ace level pitching of senior Bracie Jackson, the Lady Musketeers defeated MSC and 3A powerhouse Lady Dragons, to improve to 2-2 and 1-1 in the MSC. Jackson, a Kankakee Community College signee, was dealing all night as she struck out 10 Lady Dragons over 7 innings of 5 hit softball. The Lady Dragons was able to score 1 run against Bracie who also had solid defense behind her and support from her battery mate, Ivy Dixon. Offensively, the Musketeers scored 2 runs on 2 hits (Sidney Patton 1-3 and Lila Blevins 1-3 with 1 RBI). Lady Musketeer head coach, Adrienne Patton sang high praises for her squad after the victory. “I couldn’t be prouder of the girls tonight for keeping their composure and finishing strong for this win! I can’t give our seniors enough credit for the way they are leading this team. Bracie was excellent on the mound, she was locked in. Hitting all her spots with 10 strikeouts is huge against a well-disciplined offensive team like Silver Creek. Sidney had some crucial pick-ups at 1st to keep us going and got some offense going early for us. It’s just a One-Two punch with those two and Dixon is also a bright spot for us behind the plate. She’s a solid catcher and is putting in the work for us. I am super happy with all the returning players and our youngsters. Honestly, I hate not mentioning everyone. This is a great group of young ladies with tons of potential. If we can continue to improve and peak at the right time I feel like exciting things are yet to come for us!” The Lady Musketeers play at defending sectional champ, Providence tonight, before traveling to county rival, West Washington tomorrow. Record: 2-2 overall, 1-1 in MSC * The Lady Musketeers also recognized the Middle School Team who is currently 2-0 and off to a good start. * The Eastern Athletic Department recognized the two IHSAA umpires for IHSAA officials appreciation week! We desperately need baseball and softball umpires who are licensed through the IHSAA.
