Middle School Baseball and Softball teams off to hot starts in inaugural seasons at East Washington

The East Washington School Corporation recently adopted middle school baseball and softball as sport offerings at the school. Both middle school teams are off to good starts as the baseball team is 4-0 and the softball team is 2-0. The baseball team is guided by Mike Lawson while the softball team is lead by Jason Kennedy. Last night the middle school Musketeers defeated county rival West Washington in a doubleheader by scores of 9-1 in the A game and 7-4 in the B game. In game one, 8th grader Reece Lindley took to the hill and went 4 innings while surrendering 1 run on 3 hits and striking out 6 to get the win. Offensively, 8th graders Kylan Roll went 1-1 with a triple and 2 RBIs, Alton Swartz went 2-3 with 2 RBIs, Cooper Hurst went 1-2 with a double and 2 RBIs and Carter Smith went 1-2 with a walk. 7th grader Drake Deremiah went 2-3 as well. In game two, 7th grader Jayce Flagg got the start and gave up 5 hits on one run over three innings with two strikeouts. He also went 2-3 at the plate. 7th grader Hayden Farley went 2-3 with 2 runs scored and Deremiah added a 1-2 performance with 2 RBIs. 8th Grader Logan Dyke went 1-2 with an RBI, Ashton Wilson went 2-3, Reas Sater went 1-2 with a double and RBI and Smith added a double and 2 RBIs to support Flagg who got the win on the mound. The Middle School Musketeers travel to Trinity Lutheran this evening. In softball, the middle school Lady Musketeers next game is at Corydon on Thursday at 6 pm.
