Gavin Odum drives in 5 to help the Musketeers win a slugfest with South Central

Gavin Odum had himself 'a day' last night against visiting South Central to propel the Musketeers to their first win of the season. Odum, a sophomore, drove in five runs on three hits to lead Eastern Musketeers past South Central 11-10 on Wednesday at Larry Ingram Field. Odum doubled twice in the first inning as the Musketeers bats finally broke out and batted around. The first of his doubles scored three runs, and the second scored a pair. Both offenses were strong at the plate as both teams collected nine hits each in the high-scoring affair. South Central got on the board in the top of the first inning after the Musketeers committed an error followed by Landen Sutherland's single to center field which lead to a 3 run frame for the Rebels. The Musketeers flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the first, scoring nine runs on five hits to take the lead, 9-3. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Odum that drove in three. South Central scored five runs on three hits in the top of the second inning. John Davis singled, scoring two runs, Sutherland drew a walk, scoring one run, and Clinton Fouts singled, scoring two runs. Eastern added two runs in the third after Boone Miller singled down the right field line. Garrett Drury earned the win for Eastern Varsity Musketeers. The hurler surrendered seven hits and nine runs (two earned) over four and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking six. Sutherland took the loss for South Central. The starting pitcher went one and one-third innings, allowing nine runs (three earned) on six hits, striking out three and walking two. Connor Gilstrap collected the save. Eastern collected nine hits in the game. Odum and Miller each collected three hits a piece Christian Reschar collected two hits for the Musketeers in two at bats. The Middle School Musketeers improved to 4-0 with a win at Trinity Lutheran. 8th grade Alton Swartz and 7th grader Drake Deremiah combined to pitch a 6-0 shoutout win in Seymour. Next up for Eastern is a game against Brownstown Central tonight. The game is a 5:00 start at Larry Ingram Field. The middle school squad will play North Harrison in a double header on Monday evening at home.
