Something that has been 35 plus years in the making occurred on Thursday night at Floyd Central High School. A night after shell shocking the host Lady Highlanders and ending their 23 year reign as sectional champs, the Lady Musketeers had to fight off neighbor and rival Borden to win 3-2 last night to bring home the first tennis sectional title in school history. The #1 doubles team of Anna Dupin and Eliza Starrett continued their run of dominance to secure the first victory for the Musketeers. The second win came from the #2 doubles team who stepped up to avenge their loss to the Braves from earlier in the year. This left the match split 2-2 and it came down to #1 Singles. Sidney Burton hadn't dropped a set all year and lost her first set. She battled to pull out the second set victory before going point for point to win #1 Singles and help secure the sectional title for her team. This victory was a great team effort, with contributions from all spots and teammates! Great job players and coaches for honoring the opportunity to achieve this amazing accomplishment! The girls had the opportunity to celebrate their accomplishments with police and fire truck escorts coming home to Eastern High School! The ladies will play Silver Creek at the state of the art Jeffersonville High School tennis center on May 27th or 28th....More details to come!
