Hot Dog Baseball Senior Spotlight: There is a specific kind of toughness required to be a part of a competitive baseball program. Most people think that toughness is measured in batting averages or fastball velocity. But as a coach, I know that true strength is found in character, humility, and a "team-first" mentality. This year, no one personifies those traits better than senior outfielder Jose Santos. Jose’s journey to the varsity roster is unlike any other on this team. For the past two seasons, Jose wasn’t wearing a jersey on game days; he was wearing the title of Team Manager. He spent two years behind the scenes, hauling equipment, chasing down foul balls, and doing the thankless jobs that keep a program running. Most kids would have been content to stay in that role, but Jose had a different vision. He wanted to earn his spot on the roster. In high school sports, it’s easy to focus only on the nine players in the field. But a championship culture is built by the guys who make the team better from the dugout out. Jose doesn’t see the field much on game days, but his impact is felt every game day. Jose is the ultimate teammate. While others might sulk about playing time, Jose is busy doing the "little things" that often go unnoticed by the fans in the stands, but never by his teammates or his coaches. What I appreciate the most about Jose is his visible gratitude. You can see it in the way he carries his bag and the way he wears the Hot Dog uniform. He truly treasures being a part of this program, and he never takes a single practice for granted. That feeling is a two-way street. It is rare to see a player who doesn't see much playing time be so universally respected and genuinely liked by his peers. The guys on this team aren't just "glad" Jose is here; they rely on him. They recognize that his journey from manager to teammate is a testament to his dedication and his love for Frankfort Baseball. Jose’s legacy in this program won't be found in a stat sheet, but it will be found in the culture you helped build. He has shown everyone that there is immense dignity in service and that every role on a team is vital if it's performed with heart. Thank you for your years of hard work, both as a manager and a player. We are a better team because you chose to be a part of us.
