FCXC Girls Back on the Medal Stand at State, Boys 18th

The last time a Franklin Central team of any sport earned medals as a team at a State Championship was 2012...the girls cross country team finished 4th that year. After an 11-year hiatus, the Lady Flashes nudged a few teams out of their way to sneak onto the medal stand by 1 point over #4 Hamilton Southeastern and 8 points ahead of #6 Carmel and 48 points better than #3 Noblesville. Senior Kylie Cline ran the best race of her life finishing 9th place overall in a time of 17:56. This is the 2nd best individual showing at State in school history and only the 3rd time a girl has finished in the top-10 individually. Juniors Savana and Dakota Miller were steady as always. However, the tipping point for the ladies was the clutch performances by sophomores Kaitlyn Pettet and Camryn Simons, who BOTH ran the fastest times of their lives on the BIGGEST stage. Their performances ultimately changed the meet in favor of the Lady Flashes. Junior Evie Medina and senior Ella DesJean were the 6th and 7th runners for the Flashes. This is the 5th podium finish for the girls program and the first since 2012. Absolutely phenomenal accomplishment in a non-classed sport. On the boys side, it was a rough day for many of the runners. Evan Farmer led the way with a 68th place finish. Sophomore Justin Reedus and junior Emilio Leal finished their seasons on solid races as well as sophomore Drew Wright. The boys finished 18th as a team, only 83 points out of 10th place. Thank you to our seniors Joey Ashman and Kade McDermott for being solid leaders and their contributions to our program.
