Amelia Smith - State Champion!

On a hot, blustery, summer day at IHSAA Track and Field State Finals hosted by North Central High School, junior Amelia Smith was primed to make a run at the Pole Vault State Title after posting the best outdoor vault in the State of Indiana in the weeks leading up to the State Finals. When it came time to compete, she vaulted a height of 13'0" and became the 6th state champion to clear to the 13 foot height. Smith joins boys golfer Leo Wessel '24 as the only Golden Eagles in school history to win an individual state championship. Other highlights from the Track and Field State Finals included a 7th place finish by fellow pole vaulter, Zoe Travelsted. One more medal was added as senior Katie Kolb finished in 9th place in the 800 meter run. Two other relays, the 4x400 and 4x800, performed admirably in posting a 12th place and 18th place finish, respectively. Tichenor, B. Wolf, C. Tragesser (9:30.15) 18th place 4x800 Meter Relay - A. Parker, B. Bunnell, A. Horvath, K. Wendt (3:59.54) 12th place On the boys side, only senior Seffrin Smith qualified for the State Finals and he placed 13th in the 110 meter hurdles running a 14.53 in his last race as a Golden Eagle.
