On Friday Night - the Golden Eagle football team hosted the McCutcheon Mavericks in the season opener. After exchanging the first few possessions - the Mavericks were the first team to score midway through the first quarter. The quarter would 7-0. The second quarter was owned by the Golden Eagles. Jack Linden '26 would score on a 2 yard run. On the ensuing Maverick drive, Elias Niccum '25 would tip a pass that would be intercepted by Quentin Klee and ran back for a 30 yard touchdown. At halftime, the score was 15-7 in favor of the Golden Eagles. In the third quarter, Malcolm Houze '25 would connect with Aiden Horn '27 for a 9 yard touchdown. The Mavericks would settle for a field goal. Following 3 quarters - it was 22 - 10. Houze would connect with Hayden Cler '25 for 45 yard touchdown and Trevor Macey '26 for a 9 yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. Final score 36 - 17, the Golden Eagles over the Mavericks. The Golden Eagles will travel to the Lebanon Tigers on August 30, 2024 for a 7:00 PM kickoff. This is the first time the Golden Eagles and the Tigers have played.
