North Vermillion High School is proud to announce the hiring of Phil Leonard as the next Head Coach of the Falcon Boys Basketball program. Coach Leonard brings a wealth of experience and a strong connection to the North Vermillion community. Since 2017, he has coached at every level of the program — from coordinating the youth league, to leading both middle school teams, and serving as the junior varsity coach for the past two seasons. His impact was especially evident during the 2023-2024 season, when he guided the 8th grade boys team to a 15-1 record and a Banks of the Wabash Championship, highlighting his ability to develop talent and establish a winning culture. “Phil has been a consistent and passionate presence in our program,” said Athletic Director Martin Brown. “His commitment to our student-athletes, his intense coaching style, and his ability to push players to reach their potential make him the right leader to move our program forward.” Leonard’s coaching résumé spans more than two decades and includes head coaching positions at Fountain Central, South Vermillion, and South Central, along with assistant roles at Northview and Turkey Run. He is widely respected for building tough, disciplined teams that play with energy, purpose, and pride. North Vermillion is excited to promote a coach who has already invested so much into the program and community. With Coach Leonard at the helm, the future of Falcon Basketball is full of promise.
