Knights Take First Conference Game

Knights Take First Conference Game Northeastern Varsity Knights took Monday's game in dramatic fashion, with a 6-5 walk-off victory over Knightstown. The game was tied at five in the bottom of the seventh when Brooklynne Adams doubled, scoring one run. Northeastern Varsity Knights were the first to get on the board in the first when Alexis Russell homered to center field, scoring two runs. Knightstown took the lead, 3-2, in the top of the third thanks to two errors. Russell hit a sacrifice fly, which helped Northeastern Varsity Knights tie the game at five in the bottom of the sixth. Hailey Elsrod earned the win for Northeastern Varsity Knights. The right-handed pitcher gave up two hits and zero runs over two innings, striking out five and walking none. Hersberger took the loss for Knightstown. The pitcher went six innings, giving up six runs (five earned) on 10 hits, striking out seven and walking five. Mackenzie Johnson stepped in the circle first for Northeastern Varsity Knights. The right-handed pitcher surrendered four hits and five runs (three earned) over five innings, striking out six and walking one. Northeastern Varsity Knights piled up 10 hits in the game. Johnson, Macey Oler, and Ti’aja Adams each collected two hits for Northeastern Varsity Knights. Russell went 1-for-3 at the plate and led the team with three runs batted in. Karri Gammon paced Northeastern Varsity Knights with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, accumulating five walks for the game. Swindell provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Knightstown with two runs batted in. The 3-hole hitter went 1-for-4 on the day. Knightstown's Trigg, the number eight hitter, led Knightstown with two hits in three at bats. Next up for Northeastern Varsity Knights is a game at Delta on Tuesday.
