Devils Open Track Season at HSR Qualifier

The Richmond Red Devils track and field team made their 2024 season debut at the first of two Hoosier State Relays qualifier meets. The Devils went up to Indiana Wesleyan University’s Troyer Fieldhouse to get an early eye on what they will be capable of in the season ahead. The meet kicked off with the 3200 meter run. Alex Orihuela clocked in his first official time of the season with 10:18.12. Cale Newton made his freshman debut in the 3200 as well, clocking a time of 11:25.94 for his efforts. After the two-mile, the sprints kicked off. KK Hogg made her Richmond debut with a time of 8.31 seconds. KK Farris-Craig made her debut with a time of 8.37 to win her heat. Rosalinda Colaj finished with a time of 9.10 seconds. For the boys, it was Anty West and Havi Lapsley. Anty clocked in a time of 7.23 seconds, and Havi finished with a time of 7.83 seconds. The next race for the Devils was the 4x200 meter relay. Richmond’s girls team of KK Hogg, Shay Sexton, KK Farris-Craig, and Rosalinda Colaj punched in a time of 1:54.60. The boys team of Anty West, Havi Lapsley, Ben Holliday, and Trevin Crosby locked in a time of 1:36.60. In the throwing events, Masson Heiny returned to form with a best throw on the day of 44-6.5. Jacob Lindahl made his indoor track debut with a best throw of 35-4. In the boys long jump, Ben Holliday and Havi Lapsley jumped, earning respective marked jumps of 17-9.25 and 17-7.5. The last running event of the day for the girls was the 4000 meter distance medley relay. Katy Peacock (1200), Jackie Orihuela (400), Allison Stout (800), and Lizzy Graham (1200) ran a time of 15:05.16. For the boys, the day ended with the 4x400 meter relay. Anty West, Alex Orihuela, Ben Holliday, and Trevin Crosby finished with a DQ and an unofficial hand time of 3:43.6 after one handoff began just outside of the exchange zone. The boys look forward to two weeks from now where they can lock that time or better in officially. The team from Richmond returns to action on Saturday, March 16th at the Blue and White Relays meet at Anderson University’s indoor track facility at 1:00 PM.
