TC GIRLS TENNIS FENDS OFF NEW CASTLE, STAYS PERFECT. Triton Central’s girls tennis team continued its strong early-season run Thursday night, defeating New Castle 4-1 on the road to improve to 8-0 overall. The Tigers were tested in several spots but showed resilience in key moments to secure the victory. At No. 1 singles, Maryrose Felling delivered another steady performance, earning a 6-1, 6-2 win over Peyton Blessinger. Zhibek Zhumaly was equally impressive at No. 3 singles, cruising to a 6-1, 6-1 victory to give Triton Central early momentum. The only blemish for the Tigers came at No. 2 singles, where Anniston Evans dropped a hard-fought three-set match. After falling behind early, Evans battled back to take the second set before ultimately coming up short in a 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 decision. Doubles play proved to be the difference in the match, highlighted by a thrilling battle at No. 1 doubles. The team of Neve Kahler and Estelle Gearlds outlasted their opponents in a marathon contest, bouncing back after dropping the second set to win a dramatic 15-13 super tiebreak. At No. 2 doubles, Cadence Roberts and Ellie Gast controlled their match throughout, earning a 6-1, 6-4 victory to clinch the team win. The junior varsity squad also found success, defeating New Castle 3-0. Morgan Fisher led the way with an 8-1 win at No. 1 singles, while Keely O’Gara added a 6-0 victory. In doubles play, the duo of Caydence Stout and Lexi Poole dominated with a 9-0 win. With the victory, Triton Central remains perfect at 8-0 on the season and continues to show depth and toughness across its lineup. The Tigers will look to keep their unbeaten streak alive Friday evening when they return home to face Southwestern, with matches scheduled to begin at 4:30 PM.
