Wabash Varsity Tennis vs Lewis Cass Jr-Sr High School (4 - 1) Win Wabash Tennis opened TRC Conference play with a 4-1 win over new to our Conference Lewis Cass. Playing at home at beautiful Honeywell Courts, the Apaches are showing improvement in many areas of their individual games, leading to an outstanding team effort. First off the court for the Apaches was the 1 doubles combo of Alex Dinkins and Cooper Long. Making quick work of their assignment, Dinkins and Long won in two sets 6-1, 6-2. Coach Mattern shared: "Alex and Cooper are a tough match up for any team at 1 doubles. Both athletes are very good servers, volley well, and as they continue to grow in their communication and understanding of the doubles game, the are sure to have a very successful season." Next off the court was Eli Mattern playing at 2 singles. Eli won over Nolan Hines 6-0, 6-0 controlling the match with a combination of solid serving, and aggressiveness at the net allowing him to cruise to the straight set win. Sealing the match for the Apaches was Grant Ford at 1 singles. Winning his match 6-1, 6-1, Grant relied on his top-spin power game to put Hurst, from Lewis Cass, on the defensive leading Wabash to it's 3rd point of the match. "Ford looked comfortable in the match, playing to his strengths and limiting unforced errors which will be a great combination for Grant moving forward." Coach Mattern Lewis Cass took the 3 singles match behind a strong effort from Liam Ellington, a promising Freshman in the Cass program. Ellington was able to outlast and wear down TJ Fritter taking the match for Cass 6-4, 6-2. Long points and keeping the ball in play is a recipe for success at 3 singles. Fritter played well, chasing down every shot but was unable to keep the pace up for two sets. The match of the night came at 2 doubles. A 3 set, up and down match, ultimately going to the Wabash 2 dubs team of Spencer Stout and Ashton Coffman. Wabash took set one 6-1. The tide turned in set 2 with Cass taking the set 6-2. The third and final set was a tightly contested affair, Stout and Coffman won key points taking the set 6-3 and winning the match. Wabash Varsity Record 2-3 (1-0 Conference) In JV action Dylan Pence played very well, winning in a barn burner of a match 8-6. Nick Perkins played well, but was outhit by Cass and lost 5-8. The JV doubles team of Cael McCann and TJ Tracy played well, but inexperience was a factor as they are both still learning the sport. McCann and Tracy lost 4-8 Wabash JV season record 0-2
