Wabash Varsity Tennis loses to Peru Tennis 0-5 Wabash made the trip to Thrush Courts, home of our sectional and the Peru Tigers to play a TRC matchup against the storied Peru High School Tennis Program. Wabash played well but fell to Peru in the end 0-5. Wabash is not 10-6 on the season and 3-1 in Conference Play. Highlights for Wabash came at 2 singles and 1 doubles. Eli Mattern at 2 singles played an inspired first set, taking the set 6-1 over Walsh of Peru. Set number 2 was a back and forth affair with both players struggling to hold serve. Walsh took the set 7-5 over Mattern. Walsh then with the confidence of winning set 2 and consistent spin shots, keeping the ball low was able to win 6-0 over Mattern. Similarly the 1 doubles match started strong for the Apaches with Alex Dinkins and Cooper Long looking sharp and making crisp shots to put Peru's duo of Boswell and Boswell on their heals. Long and Dinkins took set 1 6-4. Peru then bounced back with a second set win 6-2. After a break, the third set also went to Peru with a game score of 6-3. Mattern shared, "Naturally we were pleased that we had a chance at both positions. The boys played very well the first sets for sure. As we look to continue our growth as a program, we have to find the means to finish those matches in our favor. All respect to Peru and their team, they did not panic when we jumped out ahead, they continued to believe in the individual game plan and their skills to take the two matches in the end." Grand Ford played 1 singles for the Apaches facing off against Ian Potts of Peru. Ford worked hard to keep pace with the power and placement of Potts losing in 2 sets 3-6, 3-6. At 3 singles, Ashton Coffman played well. Losing 0-6, 2-6. "Ashton is a doubles player for us and does well at 2 doubles. Tonight we needed him to play singles for us due to illness. I am proud of how he accepted the challenge and worked to take advantage of the opportunity to work on his game in terms of movement. Regardless of the score, Ashton made the most of his chance to grow as a player." Coach Mattern Spencer Stout and TJ Fritter played 2 doubles for the Apaches. Both played very well, chased down shots, and worked their strengths to secure a very respectful 3-6, 1-6 loss. In Jv Action the following players participated: Dylan Pence - lost 3-6, 5-7 Nick Perkins - lost 3-6, 3-6 Cael McCann - lost 3-6, 2-6 TJ Tracy - lost 2-6, 2-6
