Wabash Tennis Moves to 4-1 in TRC Conference Play Wabash traveled to Manchester on the evening of 9/14 for a conference tennis match. The weather was perfect and the play was competitive across the courts, leading to a great night of tennis and a solid win for the Apache Netters. Troy Guenin-Hodson had a strong win at 3 singles. Winning 6-2, 6-0 and putting the first point on the board for Wabash. Next off the court for the Apaches was Grant Ford. Ford took his match 6-3, 6-1 securing a second point for Wabash. The lone loss for Wabash came at 2 doubles. Ashton Coffman and TJ Fritter suffered a tough loss of 0-6, 2-6. Having a tough time getting past the active net play of Lambert and Harshman, the Apache duo was unable to find the right shots to score consistently. Elli Mattern secured the win for the Apaches, cruising to a 6-1 first set win, then outlasting Jones in set two to win 7-6 (8-6) in what became a very competitive match. Alex Dinkins and Cooper Long went the distance to win their match at 1 doubles, giving Wabash it's 4th point on the night. Losing the first set 3-6, then coming back to win the second set 6-4, and controlling the third set for a 6-2 score. Coach Mattern shared, "Going into this match I knew it could be a tough night for us. Manchester is a good team and we needed to play solid to get the win and get out. After playing 7 matches in 9 days, our legs and minds were weary, a recipe for a potential loss, but the guys dug deep and pulled out what turned out to be a very solid 4-1 win. Coach Ford and I are very proud of them for their effort and happy they found the mental toughness to push through the fatigue to get a win." Wabash moves to 11-6 on the season and 4-1 in conference play. Wabash closes out TRC action on Wednesday as we travel to Whitko for a 5:00 pm match. in JV action, the Apaches won at every position. Getting wins on the evening were Spencer Stout, Dylan Pence, Nick Perkins and Cael McCann at doubles, and TJ Tracy.
