Powerful Pitching Performance From Mackey Sorg Carries Wabash Varsity Apaches Past Maconaquah

Mackey Sorg was dominant on the mound, as the right-handed pitcher rang up 11 strikeouts in Wabash Varsity Apaches's 5-3 victory over Maconaquah on Wednesday. Sorg surrendered six hits and three runs over nine innings while walking none. Wabash Varsity Apaches didn't take the lead until later in the game. The game was tied at three in the top of the eleventh when an error scored two runs. A home run to center field by Eli Grzeyorski put Maconaquah on the board in the bottom of the first. Zach Miller flew out, which helped Wabash Varsity Apaches tie the game at two in the top of the third. Wabash Varsity Apaches took the lead in the top of the ninth. Sorg singled, scoring one run, to give Wabash Varsity Apaches the lead, 3-2. Caiden Richards singled down the right field line on the seventh pitch of the at-bat, which helped Maconaquah tie the game at three in the bottom of the ninth. Haiden McWhirt earned the win for Wabash Varsity Apaches. The right-handed pitcher gave up zero hits and zero runs over two innings, striking out two and walking none. Deven Mitchell took the loss for Maconaquah. The pitcher went three innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on two hits, striking out three and walking three. Richards led things off on the mound for Maconaquah. The hurler allowed six hits and two runs (zero earned) over eight innings, striking out six and walking two. Sorg, Cooper Long, and Miller each collected two hits for Wabash Varsity Apaches. Treyce Daughtry and Sorg each drove in one run for Wabash Varsity Apaches. Grzeyorski drove the middle of the lineup, leading Maconaquah with two runs batted in. The first baseman went 1-for-5 on the day. Richards went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Maconaquah in hits. Wabash Varsity Apaches play at home on Monday against Rochester in their next game.
