Tennis Travels to Tippecanoe Valley

On Thursday night, the girls tennis team traveled to former TRC competitor Tippecanoe Valley. The Apaches lost 0-5. However, they were able to translate all of the drills they worked on during practice the past week into real match-scenarios. In singles action, none of the Wabash girls were able to find their rhythm. The pace and placement of the ball from the Valley girls were too much for the Apaches. Alexa Johnson (1 singles) fell 0-6, 1-6. Emma Weaver (2 singles) and Hadley Schuler (3 singles) were both defeated 2-6, 0-6. The one doubles team of Abbi Hipskind and Maddie Von Uhl started out slow, making many unforced errors in the first set. After dropping the first set 0-6, the duo finally began playing aggressive and strategic. Ultimately, they lost the second set in a tiebreaker, 6-7(3). Sophie France made her Varsity debut tonight at 2 doubles, teaming up with Bridget Bailey. This was the most competitive match of the night, lasting 2 hours. Wabash lost the first set in a tiebreaker 6-7(8). The duo continued to work hard in the second set, but fell 5-7. Coach Ford shared, “I’m extremely proud of the way Bridget and Sophie were able to work together to maximize their point opportunities. It can be difficult playing with a new partner, but by the end of their match, they were able to anticipate each other’s moves and come together as a cohesive unit”. Emma Adams was the lone winner for the Apaches, winning both of her JV singles matches. She won her first match 8-0 and her second match 8-2. Amanda Alspach went 0-2 for the night, playing against more experienced players. However, she did have some long rallies and continues to improve every day.
