By Kristyn Ford | Apr 23, 2024 2:17 PM
Wabash traveled to Southwood on Monday night for a conference matchup. Southwood came out with the victory, winning 3-2. At singles action, Alexa Johnson at 1 singles and Emma Weaver at 2 singles struggled to be on the offensive side of the ball. It can be difficult to win points while playing defense. Alexa fell 4-6, 2-6. Emma fell 2-6, 2-6. At 3 singles, Hadley Schuler won in a dominant fashion. She won the first set 6-4 and the second set 6-1. The 1 doubles team of Maddie Von Uhl and Abbi Hipskind won in a thrilling three set match. They won their first set 6-2. In the second set, Maddie and Abbi were up 5-3, but they eventually lost the set in a tiebreaker. They won their third set 6-1. Coach Ford shared, “Maddie and Abbi could have rolled over and given up after losing the second set. However, they came back with a vengeance and to win the third set quickly. Their serves and aggressive net play were the two factors that allowed them to come out with the victory”. Bridget Bailey and Sophie France (2 doubles) weren’t able to get in sync with each other and lost 2-6, 4-6. This duo will be able to learn from this experience and come back stronger in their future matches. Wabash is back in action at home on Wednesday and Thursday, playing against Rochester and Whitko. Both matches have a 5PM start time. On Saturday, Wabash will host their own invitational starting at 10AM.
