On Wednesday night, Wabash and Rochester faced off in cold and windy temperatures. Wabash lost 1-4, but they showed improvement. Alexa Johnson (1 singles) lost 1-6. 0-6. Her scores don’t reflect how close her match truly was. Alexa had long rallies and went into deuce in multiple games. However, she was never able to take control. At 3 singles, Hadley Schuler lost a tough match 0-6, 2-6. Hadley has been a solid player all year, but she just wasn’t able to get into a groove tonight. Emma Adams made her debut at 2 singles. She started off strong with a 2-0 lead, but eventually fell 2-6, 1-6. Coach Ford shared, “I threw Emma into a position where she doesn’t normally play, but I’m proud of her for stepping up to the challenge. She was able to hang in there for a few games and showed a lot of potential”. The 1 doubles duo of Abbi Hipskind and Maddie Von Uhl lost a highly contested match, 2-6, 6-7 (7). Towards the end of the match, they become more aggressive, used their strengths to their advantage, and limited their unforced errors. It can be difficult to win a match after a slow start, and the deficit was too much for them to overcome. Bridget Bailey and Emma Weaver teamed up at 2 doubles for the second time this season. They defeated Rochester in straight sets 6-2, 6-3. When playing together, Bridget and Emma are 2-0 on the season. Their styles of play complement each other well and are tough competitors. In JV action, Sophie France lost at 1 singles 1-8. Amanda Alspach, 2 singles, lost a close match in a tiebreaker, 7-8 (6). Coach Ford shared, “Sophie and Amanda are both first-year freshmen players. It’s not easy going up against opponents with more experience, but both players are going out there every night and giving it their all. They are making small improvements each match and will both be valuable assets on the team in their future years”.
