Peru traveled to Wabash on Thursday night for a TRC matchup. Wabash came away with their second victory of the season, beating Peru 3-2. This was also senior night for the Apaches. Alexa Johnson and Maddie Von Uhl are the two seniors on the team this year. They are both 4-year players and have made significant contributions to the program. We want to thank them for all of the work they’ve put in throughout their career, and we wish them luck during their next chapter of life. Alexa Johnson, 1 singles, was not able to pull off a win. Her score was 4-6, 3-6. 2 singles player, Emma Adams, lost an extremely close match in 3 sets. After winning the first set in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (5), she ran out of steam and lost the next two sets 2-6, 2-6. Hadley Schuler, 3 singles, cruised to a first set win 6-3. However, her second set was a back-and-forth match. Eventually, she won in a tiebreaker 7-6 (2). The 1 doubles duo of Abbi Hipskind and Maddie Von Uhl played in a very competitive match and came away with a 7-6 (4), 7-5 win. Bridget Bailey and Emma Weaver, our 2 doubles tandem, had the night off. Peru had to forfeit this position due to lack of numbers. Coach Ford shared, “All of these matches could have gone either way. Our girls showed mental toughness and pushed through to come out with wins during close games and tiebreakers. This was a really good win for us, and I hope it propels us in the right direction moving into next week”. Wabash travels to Manchester on Tuesday and Northfield on Wednesday. Wabash hosts Madison Grant on Thursday for their last home contest of the season.
