The running Lady Apaches started off their season at the Jacob Graf Memorial invitational Saturday morning. The girls had perfect running weather before the heat hit. Toeing the line with 22 different schools, 13 complete teams, the Apaches kickstarted the race with incredibly fast 1st miles. Going into mile two, after a battle in the woods, the girls pushed into their 3rd mile to hit some high-speed times. This led to an outstanding team placement, with huge improvement from the following season! First for the team was our sophomore, Mia Fairchild, placing 17th, earning a ribbon for being top 20, with a PR time of 22:24. Next up was our team senior, Ivy Beamer, with a time of 23:24 and placing 29th. Following in were our two team juniors. First came Maya Howard in 48th place with a time of 24:36. Close behind was Haylee Friend with a time of 24:49 in 52nd place. Following Friend was Josie Bailey, a sophomore, in 58th place with a PR time of 25:12. Rounding out the Apaches was another sophomore, Mallory Tart, with a time of 26:01. Tart finished in as the 64th individual. There were 109 runners in the race. The girls placed 6th as a team, placing 7 positions higher than in the 2023 season. The running Lady Apaches team had a great first meet of the season with lots of success. 2024 is bound to be a great one!
