The running Lady Apaches left early Saturday morning to race at the Wapahani Invitational. With the overcast skies, temperatures dropped, allowing the girls a cool morning race with rain trickling in. Toeing the line with 9 opposing teams, the Apaches ran their first mile with aggression. This set their approach for the second mile. Going into mile two, the girls moved up in placements. At the finish, the only lightning spotted was the running Apaches crossing the finish line. As a team, every athlete ran season PR’s with half of them setting new career PR’s in the process. Their efforts earn every single one of them coming home with some hardware! Top 10 receiving medals and top 25 receiving ribbons. First for the team was our sophomore, Mia Fairchild, placing 7th, with a career PR time of 21:54. Next up was our team senior, Ivy Beamer, with a time of 23:02 and placing 10th. Following in were our two team juniors. First was Haylee Friend who came in 16th place with a time of 23:48. Close behind was Maya Howard with a career PR time of 24:08 in 18th place. Following Howard was Josie Bailey, a sophomore, in 21st place with a PR time of 24:44. Rounding out the Apaches was another sophomore, Mallory Tart, with a time of 25:16. Tart finished in as the 23rd individual. There were 54 runners in the race all together. The girls placed 3rd as a team, placing higher than in the 2023 season. The running Lady Apaches team finished their week with a strong race heading into Labor Day weekend. With Manchester up next, the Apaches are excited to compete next Saturday!
