Wabash Sneaks Past Manchester with a 3-2 Win At home again at Honeywell Courts, Wabash was able to win over TRC foe Manchester 3-2 behind the strength of the Apaches singles players. Wabash improves to 2-4 in Conference play. Each of the singles matches played out in a very similar pattern with all three Wabash players winning the first set 7-5, then settling in to win comfortably in set two. 1 Singles - Mattern won 7-5, 6-1 2 Singles - Long won 7-5, 6-3 3 Singles - Coffman won 7-5, 6-0 Coach Mattern shared; "As a point of emphasis this past week or two we have been focusing on limiting unforced errors and playing our strengths to capitalize on areas to attack we notice from our opponents as the match plays out. With each of the 3 singles players our changeover conversations center on what they see that is working and how can they continue to exploit that advantage to finish out the match. It would appear we have made some strides in that department as the second set scores in each of the 3 singles matches were decidedly different than the first set. I am proud of the guys for working towards this goal and finding some success." The Apache 1 doubles team ran into a buzz saw, Pence and Shepler losing 0-6, 0-6 to Trump and Henderson. 2 doubles was a long drawn out affair going 3 sets with Manchester coming out on top of the WHS duo of Tracy and McKenzie 4-6, 6-2, 6-1. Wabash will close out the regular season next week with a furious 6 matches in 6 days, including Senior Night Thursday (9/26) at Honeywell Courts and our Wabash Invite Saturday (9/28).
