Coleson Kugler's 200 Meter Dash Regional Title Highlights Excellent Performances At Boys Track Regional

Coleson Kugler won the 200 meter dash at Thursday nights boys track regional hosted by Carroll High School. In doing so, he became Wabash High School's first regional champion since 2005 when Kyle Cantrell won the discus. His time of 21.87 tied his school record. Kugler also qualified in the 100 meter dash coming in 2nd with a time of 10.80, a new school record. The top 3 finishers in every event qualify for the state track and field finals next Friday at North Central High School. The 4x800 meter relay team of Jonas Church, Caidan Burchett, Jace Bullins, and Ezra Church also qualified for the state finals, coming in 3rd. becoming the first relay team in 89 years to qualify for the state finals. In the 1600, Jonas Church ran the gutsiest race of his career putting himself in contention to advance throughout the race. He ultimately came in 4th. His outstanding time of 4:28.17 moves him into 7th all time in the history of Wabash track and field. Caidan Burchett also had the opportunity to run in the regional for the first time in his career, coming in 13th and gaining valuable experience in the process. The 800 saw the leaders string out the race from the beginning ultimately leading to one of the fastest races around the state. Sophomore Ezra Church battled throughout the race coming in 13th. No doubt he will return next year. In the 3200 Isaiah Cordes hung with the lead pack for most of the race culminating in a 5th place finish. This bests his previous finish of 11th the previous year. Jace Bullins also competed but had to step off due to back spasms. After running multiple all-out efforts, the 4x400 of Jonas Church, Chase Howard, Ezra Church, and Coleson Kugler ended up 16th. As a team the Apaches scored 33 points, good enough for 5th place out of 31 scoring teams.
