West Lafayette Girls Basketball Start Strong

The West Lafayette girls basketball team opened the 2022-23 season with a pair of impressive wins: 70-29 at home over Logansport on Nov. 3 and 60-42 at Western Boone on Nov. 5. All five starters scored in double figures against Logansport: Vivian Huston and Adrianne Tolen (14 apiece), Sarah Werth (13) and Annie Karlaftis and Kennedy Martin (11 apiece). Karlaftis also had 16 rebounds for a double-double, while Martin and Tolen had six and four assists, respectively, and Tolen came up with five steals. The Red Devils led wire-to-wire while shooting 54% from the field, including 55% from 3-point range (10-of-18) and outrebounding the Berries 44-20. Despite being shorthanded against Western Boone, the Red Devils led virtually the entire way, including 30-17 at halftime and 49-24 after three quarters. Tolen led the way with 19 points and six steals, while Martin scored 15 points and Karlaftis had 10 points and seven rebounds. Bree Johnson added five points, five rebounds and two steals. Dylan Kastens chipped in two points, two rebounds and two steals in her first career start. West Lafayette forced 30 Western Boone turnovers and came up with 14 steals.
