Red Devil Basketball Finishes Regular Season with Win Over Rival Harrison

Adrianne Tolen and Sarah Werth combined for 46 points to lead No. 9-ranked West Lafayette girls basketball to a thrilling 59-51 win at rival Harrison on Jan. 26. Tolen scored 25 points, including 4 of 5 shooting from 3-point range, to go with eight rebounds, four assists and four steals. Werth tallied 21 points, including 3 of 5 shooting from long distance, and added eight rebounds, three assists and three steals. Kennedy Martin had eight points, including a momentum-changing 3-pointer at the end of the first quarter that gave the Red Devils a 17-16 advantage, and they led for the balance of the game. Martin also contributed six rebounds, three assists and three steals. West Lafayette had 13 assists on 18 field goals, made 15 of 20 free throw attempts and outrebounded the Raiders 36-28. The Red Devils forced 17 turnovers and came up with 14 steals. West Lafayette finished the regular season on a five-game winning streak and will take an 18-5 record into IHSAA Sectional 22 play on Friday, Feb. 3. The Red Devils will play either top-ranked Twin Lakes or North Montgomery at Benton Central. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. Harrison won a hard-fought JV game 38-32. Ellie Wilcoxson led the Devils with 11 points and seven rebounds. Emma Wiete chipped in 10 points and five rebounds and Sarah Flesher added five rebounds.
