West Lafayette Softball Takes 2 from Rensselaer

It was a great day for softball for West Lafayette fans as the Red Devils took down the Rensselaer Bombers 8-5 and 22-5 to sweep the season series. With the pair of victories, West Lafayette moves to 3-0 in conference play and moves to 4-0 on the season for the first time since 2015. Freshman pitcher Izzy Ascarelli picked up two more wins, moving to 4-0 on the season, junior Dani Rawles and sophomore Allison Creech chipped in solid innings of relief to secure the victories. Ascarelli totaled 13 strike outs on the day, with Creech and Rawles each adding a K to the tally. The Red Devil defense was errorless on the day. It was a big day at the plate for many Red Devils. Adrianne Tolen had 4 hits on the day including her second homerun of the season and chipped in 4 RBI on the day. Ascarelli had 3 hits and 2 RBIs , Rawles heated up in game 2 going 4 for 6 with 2 RBIs. Junior Emma Orr found herself on the basepaths every way imaginable, with 3 hits on the day, 4 RBIs, and 6 runs scored. Bree Johnson had a day to remember going 2 for 3 in game 1 and an impressive 5-5 in game 2, she added 6 RBIs on the day and scored 5 runs herself in addition to making a stellar diving catch at first. Sophomores Megan Fowler and Ellie Wilcoxson each added 2 hits in the balanced effort.
