Western Boone’s boys’ and girls’ teams took a road trip to Cascade on Tuesday. The gym in Clayton had plenty of noise early, but the Stars seized control as the night unfolded, leaving with two wins and a series of statement performances, including in the exhibition bouts. Girls Dual: Western Boone 36, Cascade 24 The girls’ meet opened in a scramble of forfeits, with both benches tallying early points. Webo built an initial lead with openings at 125, 130, and 135, but Cascade countered with points at 155, 170, and 235 to tie the meet at 18–18 before the wrestling actually began. The momentum flipped at 100 pounds. Jolie Lawson stepped into the circle and delivered the first real spark of the night, staying composed through a tough second period before planting her opponent for a fall at 2:49. Her pin broke the deadlock and pumped life into the Webo sideline. Cascade answered with a pin at 110, but the Stars shut the door from there. Western Boone closed out the dual with forfeits at 105 and 115, sealing a 36–24 win. Boys Dual: Western Boone 49, Cascade 26 The boys’ dual swung back and forth early. Cascade grabbed the first punch with a technical fall at 138. Charlie Jones answered at 144 with a determined 16–7 win that steadied the Stars and shifted the crowd’s buzz. Cascade pulled ahead again at 150, but that’s where Western Boone lit the fuse. At 157, Heath Williams needed less than a minute to fire up the traveling fans, sticking his opponent in 59 seconds and giving Webo its first lead. Cascade’s pin at 165 briefly swung the score again, but the Stars responded with their most dominant run of the night. • 175: Broden Wilson gutted out a tough 17–13 decision. • 190: Jacob Smith followed with a pin in just 53 seconds. • 215: David Puckett added another fall a minute into the match. Suddenly, Webo held a double-digit lead. Cascade’s heavyweight earned a fall to keep the Cadets alive, but Western Boone slammed the door with a clean sweep of the lightweights. Bennet King, Klayton Mikesell, and Jackson Bloss each claimed forfeits at 106, 113, and 120, stretching the score even further. At 126, Tyson Riner finished things off with a pin at 3:12. Cascade added a late pin at 132, but the Stars had long since locked down the dual, walking out with a 49–26 victory. Exhibition Matches Western Boone also had a strong showing in the extra bouts, winning all four: • Eli Ballentine: Pinned his opponent in 51 seconds. • Colton Mitchell: Scored a fall at 1:26 after piling up points early. • Lane Rose: Recorded a pin in 1:24. • Beau Sanders: Closed out the set with a fall at 3:54. These matches didn’t affect the team score, but they added to the overall momentum and highlighted the depth of Webo’s lineup. The Stars travel to Columbus on Saturday, December 13, for another series of dual meets at Columbus North High School. Wrestling starts at 9:00am.
