The Western Boone Stars faced off against the Cardinal Ritter Raiders on a chilly Thursday night and came away with a hard-fought 37-32 win. Western Boone came out aggressive, opening the game in a diamond-and-one press to disrupt the Raiders’ offense early. Isabel Grady and Ally Lewis helped set the tone by scoring four points each in the opening quarter, while Ila Stokes knocked down a deep three to keep momentum on the Stars’ side. After one, the teams were deadlocked at 13-13. The Stars found their rhythm in the second quarter by attacking the basket with confidence. Jaylee Dickerson sparked the offense with an and-one finish, and Maddy Monks followed with a strong rebound put back while drawing a foul, converting both free throws. Just before halftime, Mickey Burns added a key bucket on a last-second put back off a missed free throw, sending Western Boone into the break with a 25-19 lead. Coming out of halftime, Emerson Got came ready to play. With the Stars looking for offense in a slower third quarter, Western Boone leaned on its presence in the middle to generate points. Got scored half of her total points in the third, helping the Stars maintain a 33-27 advantage heading into the final period. Western Boone sealed the win with defense in the fourth quarter, holding Cardinal Ritter to just five points in the final eight minutes. The Stars remained composed down the stretch and closed out the 37-32 victory. Western Boone returns to action Friday night on the road at North Montgomery.
