The Junior High Cross Country team traveled to Terre Haute for their first meet of the season. The LaVern Gibson course will also be where they will have their final race at the Middle School State Championships. Generally there is a tremendous amount of improvement in between these two meets but the young Stars set the bar high and showed how hard they have been preparing. The boys raced first and they were led by Aiden Lester who finished 15th out of 101 runners with a time of 11:41, followed closely by 6th grader Ari Smith in at 20th place with an impressive time of 12:01. Brentton Palmer came in at 59th with his 2nd best time ever at 14:02 followed by Rex Stanley (88th) with a new personal best time of 15:52 and 6th grader Hayden Trenary crushed his first race ever with a time of 17:05. Joan Gearheart led the girls team finishing 6th out of 88 runners with a time of 12:35. Next across the line was Lyla Kinsler with her first race in a Webo uniform came in 39th place with a 15:07. Claire Torp ran a great race finishing 56th in 15:54 followed by the determined 6th grader Bristol Mccord (77th), Autumn Palmer (78th) and Jaili Torp (82nd) with times of 17:34, 17:41 and 18:16. Autumn and Jaili both shaved off about 45 seconds in this same race from last season. This was a very challenging day for this team as they had to wait through 6 other races before stepping to the line but every last one of them showed up and left whatever they had on the Cross Country course. They will be put back to the test on Tuesday where they will host Speedway for their only home meet this season.
