Western Boone Volleyball opened the season last night with a 3-0 victory over the Monrovia Bulldogs. WeBo set the tone for the match in the first set. Kennedy Kiger put the Stars up 8-3 early, and after Monrovia got within 9-7, Raegan Durbin had three-straight kills to make it 12-7. During the second set, Dunn's kill sparked a mini 3-0 for WeBo, who out-scored Monrovia 9-4 down the stretch. The third set pretty much matched the first. WeBo scored the first four points, and never led by less than three as they cruised to the win. Durbin led the Stars with 14 kills and seven digs. Dunn added eight kills, with Saige Terwiske having six and Kiger five. Janie Ransom had 31 assists. Elena Gubera added 13 digs, with Chloe Gillan having six and Kendal Ramey five. Western Boone hosts North Putnam Thursday, then faces Hamilton Heights, Mount Vernon and Heritage Christian in a tournament on Saturday.
